Duo sighed. It was a false relationship, a pity relationship. Quatre and Trowa didn't need a third person in their relationship, but the ones Duo loved were oblivious, in their own little ice world, and all he wanted was love. Quatre and Trowa took him in with genuine caring, but it wasn't the burning love and passion he craved.
But even when they weren't very loving it was more love than he ever knew.

Duo had had so many dreams. He wished that the two he loved would love him bck. He dreamed that they would wrap their arms around him and just hold him. But it could never work.
"If a tree falls in the woods and no one's there to hear it, does it still make noise?" Duo questioned himself, staring at the trees around him as he walked through the forest.
Suddenly he screamed, pounding his fist into a tree in frustration. Tears ran down his face, and he continued screaming in frustration.
But there was no one to hear him. No one was listening.

His voice slowly faded out after awhile, and he climbed a tree, hiding in the branches, curling into a fetal position as if to hide his soul.
*I love them only because there's no one else to love...* Duo realized, holding his bleeding knuckles to his chest.

What's the point in ever trying
Nothing's changing anyway*~

*Why am I even trying to get their attention...life goes on, as always...it doesn't change...and where di my dreams go? The dreams that I used to have? Washed away in the rain, because nothing ever changes, nothing ever grows to anchor the dirt.*

~*They press their lips against you
And you love the lies they say
Duo remembered the feeling of lips against his...against his skin...oh, how he loved the lies Trowa and Quatre told him as they said that they loved him, and would always love him. Lies were sometimes better than truth...
He put on the jester's mask, telling everyone to be happy, to love...when to not feel was how he thrived, as he really detached from feeling alive. [1]

Duo smiled a grim little smile, as he pulled a knife from a boot. *Well, we'll see if a person dies if no one's there to see him...*
He slit his wrists with quick motions.

Back in the safe house, Quatre's head snapped up. "Duo!"
Almost before the sentence was out of his mouth, Heero was out of the door like a bat out of hell, closely followed by Wufei.

"Why, Duo?" Wufei asked, as he held bandages to Duo's wrists to stop the bleeding. "Thank God he didn't know the proper way to slit his wrists," he remarked to Heero, chocolate eyes wide with worry.[2]
"Aa," Heero agreed. Kneeling down before Duo, he looked him in the eye, and repeated Wufei's question. "Naze?"[3]

"You never listened to me," Duo whispered.
"Listened to what?" Wufei demanded.
"My heart...what I tried to tell you...I should tell you...I love you.[4] Wufei to Heero.[5]" His eyes rolled shut.[6]
Just then the ambulance roared up, and the medical team hopped out, as Heero and Wufei stared at each other in shock.
"Do you think...?"
"We could...?"
The two understood each other well. A silent agreement was made within seconds.

"Aa...Duo, Wufei and I have something to tell you," Heero said a week later, when Duo was released from the hospital, his wrists nearly healed. "Aishiteru."
"Wo ai ni," Wufei added.
"N-nani?" Duo said, his eyes flying open in shock.
"We won't ever leave you, Duo," Heero said sliding in one side of the bed and placing his arms around Duo, as Wufei did the same from the other side.
That night, Duo fell asleep, safe and happy, as he was protected and warmed from both sides.
