Motivation

This page is born humbly, with illusion, hope and, above all, with courage due to the route we intend to cover, which we imagine full of all possible satisfactions, but also not exempt from difficulties. And although we do not reach the finishing line, we will have at least the satisfaction to have developed something we believe in, and which intends to be, though minimal, a contribution to the work that others made.

For those born in Alcázar de San Juan it is completely famous the Cervantine tradition which has existed in our town, derived mainly from the baptismal certificate of the distinguished writer and found in St. Mary Parish Church, and which has been transmitted generation to generation until today. Luckily many researchers from different epochs have contributed and served to maintain the torch light which illuminates this route.

The open paths in these investigations are the ones we want to cover humbly and gratefully to them, trying, if possible, to open new ways which allow us to reach the desired goal: The elucidation of Miguel de Cervantes' true birthplace, without ruling out the most deeply rooted hypotheses, as we are aware of the huge difficulty and the strength which represents the officially acknowledged ideas about this subject from more than two centuries.

When we are celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the publication of "The Quixote", event which has been prepared for several years at all levels, world, national, regional and local-wide, we find with surprise, and even with sadness, that these two lower levels, especially Castile-La Mancha Autonomous Region and our province capital city, Ciudad Real, seem to behave themselves as if "Alcázar did not exist". Among other reasons for this assertion, we recommend to analyze the diverse "Quixote Routes" or the references to the main towns in Ciudad Real, which appear now in pages and magazines.

From above one could conclude the following: on the one hand, claims as ours seem to be annoying and inconvenient for the official institutions, and in a way, though it hurts us, it can be understood. And on the other hand, for us the most serious thing, it is the passivity of a whole town, beginning from its authorities and institutions.

The task we intend to fulfil is huge. Therefore it is worthy of admiration the work made, among others, by distinguished researchers from Alcázar de San Juan, most of them by themselves. And they deserve this work that they carried out unselfishly in everyone's interest to be continued. As an example and with much respect to them all, we would like to mention those we believe that have been the last researchers up to date: Ángel Ligero Móstoles, Manuel Rubio Herguido, Francisco Saludador Merino and Rafael Mazuecos Pérez-Pastor, trying to contribute to the divulgation of their works and studies.

This web wants to be the meeting place for the collection of data, suggestions, contributions, discussion forum, for all of you that would like to participate in this project. We are also ready to hear and debate all the opinions against our theses with respect, as it has been said, we are only guided by the elucidation of the truth, no matter the result.
