AUGUST 9, 2002

Around 7:30 in the evening we began to worry that our fellow travelers had not returned.  Our kind hosts at our lodging tried to contact Dan the ATV man,  When he returned our message we found out that Heather had injured her knee.  Later that evening we met them at the Homer emergency room, where the x-rays revealed that Heather had broken a bone in her knee!  We spent the next morning visiting various medical establishments in Homer, while Heather got further diagnosis and outfitted with a brace that would allow her to travel.  The hospitality at the doctor's office while we were waiting was incredible - including juice, treats, and even the offer to watch a video while we waited.

As we drove along the Sterling Highway back to Anchorage, we enjoyed seeing the view of the volcanoes across Cook's Inlet.  (We didn't see them on our way to Homer due to the misty weather.)  The fireweed lined the road.  At one spot we had to stop and take pictures in this field of flowers.
MOOSE CROSSING!

As we traveled  we saw 5 moose along the road.

Although we had to drive many hours back to Anchorage to board our midnight plane, we enjoyed every mile of the stunning scenery!

The sun sets on our wonderful trip to Alaska!
