Jones, Alan b Liverpool 27.12.1935

Formerly violinist in Merseyside Youth Orchestra.  Winner of Liverpool University Music Society Alsop Prize for composition 1959 & 1960, then a student in chemistry.  Now resident in Wirral.  Violinist in Liverpool Mozart Orchestra.  Studied composition after retirement from the administrative staff of the University of Liverpool.

Chamber orchestral: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra and Sinfonietta (1st performance by the LMO 03.11.2007)

Chamber music: 6 works incl. Constable’s Clouds for string quartet, Skylarking for saxophone & strings, An Alternative Way for Fl, Cl, Vibraphone, Vln, Va & Vc.

Instrumental: 4 works incl. Bagatelle for violin & piano

Wind: Nonet, brass quintet

Choral: Carol The seven Joys of Mary (a capella), The Broom, the Shovel, the Poker and the Tongs (with piano)
