You've built some Web pages and you're ready to put them on the Internet. How do you do this? Let me explain.

As I said earlier, all Web pages are on a server somewhere. You will need space on a server to put your Web page. How do you get this space? First, many ISPs (Internet Sevice Providers) let their members use some of the space on the ISP's server, generally 10 MB. Contact your ISP to see if they have this service. Some companies, called Web hosting companies, charge for server space. Do a search for "Web hosting companies" to find companies like this. Perhaps you know someone who will give you space on their server for free.

Also, www.geocities.com lets you have 15 MB of Web space for free!!! (You must register with www.yahoo.com to use this service, and Yahoo! registration is free) People who already have a Yahoo! ID can just go to GeoCities.com and log in with their regular ID and password. The URL of your page will be http://www.geocities.com/YourYahooID.

A small amount of space, like 10 or 15 MB, is plenty to start out with. Text files take up barely any space at all, and most of your space will be used up by images. Using an image-editing program to shrink image size is a great way to conserve file space.

I have many images on this website, and even after two and a half years, I have only used up about 10 MB.
