You do not have to return to this page in order to move to the next photo within an album. Each full-sized photo has a "previous" and "next" link at the top of the page.
If all else fails, you can always go to my album list and then click on the album you want. All albums from this trip have names starting with "feb2001". The first album from this trip is named "feb2001a.hawaii" so that it is listed first in alphabetical order among the feb2001 albums. The next album starts with feb2001b, and so on, so you can go through them in order if you like.
Tech note: I have used the URLs generated by photos.yahoo in the links below to take you directly to the thumbnail pages, and to display thumbnails for all the photos in the album, not just the first 12 or 16 or whatever the default is. However, yahoo changes the URL format from time to time so the links below might not always work as I intended. If that happens, you should always be able to start with the list of albums, as described above.

Early in February, 2001, I flew to Honolulu, arriving on a Friday evening and flying out to Australia very late Saturday night (actually early Sunday morning). The time was two hours earlier than in California. I stayed with my friend Mike, his wife Maria, and his son Sean. I had not seen Sean since 1987. On the way back from Australia, I stayed with them again, two nights that time. Mike and Maria took me out to eat many times, drove me around to sightsee, and generally kept me entertained.

After nearly 10 hours I arrived at Sydney airport, read for a few hours, and then flew 90 minutes to Brisbane. The time was 20 hours later than in Honolulu. I stayed nearly 3 weeks in the home of my college friend, who is known as Irvine, and his wife Jean and sons Jasper, 9, and Maclin, 4. They live in Alderley, about 15 minutes outside Brisbane. We all swam in their pool that afternoon, which was great in the 84 heat. At sunset, Irvine and I went to look at thousands of bats take off from nearby trees. During the rest of my stay, I frequently rode in to Irvine's office at Queensland University of Technology on the back of his motorcycle. He's a part-time lecturer there in e-commerce and also works on outside contracts. I also visited both boys' schools.

Irvine coaches Jasper's baseball team. In Jasper's age group, the coach pitches to his own players, with one knee on a pad. They had several practices and games while I was there.

The first weekend, all five of us drove half an hour to the shore and took a 20-minute ride on a water taxi that could seat 100 people to North Stradbroke Island, known as Straddy. They had rented a condo from Jean's friend Chris. We spent a lot of time enjoying the fabulous beaches and scenery those two days. Irvine took some of the shots of Jasper and Maclin at the beach.
