2009 AVSAR SCHEDULE LAST UPDATED: January 5, 2009 Training: 1900-2100 Hrs, Tuesday, January 20, 2009 -Adams State College, Richardson Hall 231 -Avalanche Awareness Class -Presented by the American Avalanche Association�s Executive Director, Mark Mueller -Date, time, and location are tentative based on Mark�s ability to get over Wolf Creek Pass &/or his avalanche control work responsibilities Meeting: 1800-2100 Hrs, Tuesday, January 27, 2009 -Alamosa Sheriff�s Office Classroom -Pro deals for AVSAR active members (see website & bylaws for active members) -Participation will require the signing of a contract -Four Rigging for Rescue trainees for 2009 -2008�s training attendees and mission responders received preference -Participation will require the signing of a contract -Short classroom training -Winter survival expectations for Jan. 31st overnight & missions Training: 0900-1300 Hrs, Sunday, February 1, 2009 (Optional Start: 1500 Hrs, Saturday, January 31, 2009) -Field training location to be announced at January meeting (email will be sent too) (Wolf Creek Pass area or Rock Creek depending upon weather) -Optional winter survival training / overnight starting 1500 hrs Jan. 31 -Winter shelters and sub-zero survival -Glissading, skiing, and snow shoeing -Crampon and ice ax competency -Self belay and self arrest -Roped team travel -Placing anchors (pickets, flukes, deadmen, ice screws, bollards, etc.) -Focal point skills: equalizing anchor points, analyzing systems -Vertical ice climbing skills (top roped) -"Cornice spelunking" -Level I avalanche beacon use Sunday 0900 -Objective: Be able to find a buried beacon in a mock avalanche in under 90 seconds Supplemental Training: All Day, Sat. February 14 � Mon.
