St. Elmo's Fire was a story about seven college graduates and the life they lead around them. It goes into depth of relationships within the group, emotional problems, and family life. Each of them have their own dilemma. First of all there's Kirby (Emilio Estevez), whose fallen in love with a woman whom fate decides he'll never be with. Then there's Billy (Rob Lowe), a poor saxophone player that lacks ambition of life and is always in a bad relationship and breaking people's hearts. Next up you have Kevin (Andrew McCarthy), a depressed loveless writer that has a deep obsession with one of the girls in the group (not telling who, sorry). You've also got poor old Jules (Demi Moore), a slut that's low on cash, self esteem, and especially respect. Even more so you've got the Republican working man Alec (Judd Nelson) and his girlfriend Leslie (Ally Sheedy). Although they're a happy couple, Alec has a sick habit of cheating on Leslie behind her back and is begging her to marry him so he'll stop his flanderous affairs. Finally you have Wendy (Mare Winningham), a spoiled virgin whose only ambition is to help out the misfortunate. St. Elmo's Fire was called the sequel to The Breakfast Club for many because it not only has a very similar cast (Judd the punk, Emilio the jock, and Ally the outcast), but St. Elmo's Fire touches on the same moral realities of life... just outside of school and inside the real world. Although the acting and plot overall were spectacular, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy really suck out as the stars of this movie, even surpassing Emilio and Demi with such a wonderful click when together and powerful characters outside. Besides, Ally has more then three lines in this movie! St. Elmo's Fire is an astounding film with a cast that just shouts out perfection, well worth a four out of four and place on Alaay's Classics.
