Biography:

Mr. Shareef has been working in the field of Mental Health, Alcohol and Substance abuse since 1972 and has over thirty years experience. He has worked inpatient and outpatient programs for Alcohol and Drug treatment at the Veterans Administration Hospital from 1972 to 1987. He has worked inpatient and outpatient mental health programs at the same hospital from 1987 to 1989. He has been a clinical supervisor in a Day Treatment Program for the Mentally Ill Chemical Abuser (MICA) client in the first day treatment program for the population in the state of New York with Spectrum Human Services in 1988 to 1989. He was Co-Coordinator of a VA program Healthcare for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) from 1989 to 1995. The target population of this program was veterans with Mental Health programs, Alcohol and Drug problems and HIV/AIDS. During this time he initiated and created a program in conjunction with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Belmont Shelter to provide Section Eight vouchers for a select number of those homeless veterans served by (HCHV) program. He was the Social Work for the Infectious Disease Department working with those veterans who has HIV Disease and AIDS from 1996 to 2002. 

He has served in many community organizations. He was Vice President of the Erie County Substance Abuse Consortium and severed as President. He has also severed as a Board Member of the Aids Network. He served on the Board of Directors of Aids Community Services from 1986 to 1994 and is a board member of Latina Alianza at this time. He continues to serve veterans at the (VAMC) as a Social Worker in the Surgery Department. 

He has been an Assistant Professor in the Mental Health Aide, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor curriculum at Erie Community College (ECC). He has served as an Associate Professor in the graduate school of the School of Social Work, at the same State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNYAB).
