TEN COMMANDMENTS BIKE/RIDE

It's a GREAT DAY FOR SCOUTING and we are all set for a wonderful morning of celebrating "A Scout is Reverent". There have been the usual last minute chages to our schedule, but no worry the ride is set and hopefully the weather will be great. Rain or Shine we will be visiting 3 churches in Moraga. At each church we will hear a short history about that particular church's religion and then the religous leader will explain 2 or 3 commandments. The route is 3.2 miles from start to finish, thus this might be a really good event to bike from your home in order to make the ride longer. If you have clicked on to this page in search for t-shirt transfers, scroll down to the correct link. There is a front and a back image. There will be picnic lunch following the third church where the Pastor or Vicar from Faith Lutheran will discuss the remaining Commandments while we eat. We are requesting but not requiring a $3 donation to help defray the food cost. We're more concerned that you come and enjoy the fellowship and learn something about the different churches/religions we will be experiencing on our journey, so if you don't have $3 don't worry.

The basics are:
Saturday 2/1/03 Starting promptly 9 a.m., (so come early to unload)

We will begin at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church, 10 Moraga Valley Lane in Moraga, Ca. (1st stop) where Pastor Dabasinskas and/or Scoutmaster Tom McIntosh will talk about the Presbyterian Church and Commandments 1,2 & 3. We will then travel 1.3 miles to the ...

2nd stop at Saint Monica's Catholic Church, 1001 Camino Pablo, Moraga, arriving between 9:45 and 10:15am, where Father Sission will chat with us about the Catholic Church and Commandments 5 & 7. We will then travel 1.9 miles to the ...

3rd and final stop at St. Giles Episcopal Church at St. Mary's College Chapel, Moraga, where Father Decklan will talk about the Episcopal Church and Commandments 9 & 10. We will then be walk over to a nice picnic spot on the grounds of St. Mary's where ...

the remaining Commandments will be explained and a short history on the Lutheran Church will be presented by either Pastor Norris or Vicar Gaff-Eggold from Faith Lutheran Church of Pleasant Hill, during our picnic lunch.

A picnic lunch will be provided by Aklan District Activites Chair, donations are welcome. If you want, after lunch you may bike back to the first church, it is only 2.1 miles away. If you do that the total miles will be 5.3 roundtrip or 3.2 miles stops 1 through 3.

Some churches might give out information about their church, please be sure say thank you. Flyers about the P.R.A.Y religious program supported by the BSA will be handed out at the last stop.

Disabled, young scouts, and non-bikers are welcome to ride along in cars.

My son has designed a t-shirt design that you can print off on your printer onto iron-on transfer sheets and apply to t-shirts. The images are mirror images, so just print directly onto the iron-on transfer sheet and then press onto your shirt, (remember to keep one corner bent up in order to pull the transfer paper from the cloth). You can either iron on yourself or check out kinko's, they sometimes have a heat press that they will press the transfer on for you for a fee. I am not sure if they have their own transfer sheets that they want your to use. You'll have to check that out yourself. The back says, (click on the words), A SCOUT IS REVERENT, as we are biking down the street everyone will know who we are. The front has (click on words), Ten Commandment Bike/Ride with an old fashioned bicycle in the middle. To see chat the image will look like once you iron it on - click on words "front" or "back".

Boy Scouts will be allowed to bike alone, as there will be plenty of adult leaders on hand, just be sure you check in and give Sherry Nolan your emergency information in case something happens on the ride. Cub Scouts may travel as a den with 2 deep leadership, however, I would really like to see more adults traveling with the Cubs. Individual Cubs may attend, as long as a parent is with them. This is a great family or Patrol outing.

Everyone should be dressed for the weather, the event will take place rain or shine. Be sure to bring water bottles and portable snacks. Adults might want to carry bandaids and/or small first aid kits. I will be traveling behind in a truck with a first aid kit.

Please let me know about how many to expect, in order to have enough food on hand.

All Scouts, All Districts are welcome!

NOTE: For those wanting to shuttle their car(s) to the last stop, you might want to get to the first stop around 8:15 to 8:30, drop off bikes and kids and then take your car(s) to the last stop. Hopefully there will be people around that will help shuttle people back. Of course it is okay to bike back to the starting place, it is only a 2.1 miles away. Questions?
