Lt. Col. John Spahr's Super Duper Cub Leader List of links

There are an amazing number of Scouting web sites, with many offering downloadable resources that will save you time, free you from having to "reinvent the wheel" or maintain a vast library of information, and help you put together highter wuality Scouting documents. Here's a sampling of sites that I hightly recommend Scouters place in the "Favorites" list of their browsers:

National Council's web site. Lots of great features, links, fact sheets, family fun activities and more. I suggest going right to the site map under any of the main features.

Troop 24 was the first Scouting web page. It has loads of information and was the unoffical Mt. Diablo Silverado web site for many years. Hosted by Berkeley's Troop 24. Terrific info on both local and regional Scout hikes with pictures of patches available for those who complete the trek, plus links to other MDSC districts, insurance requirements, and info on the MDSC Trading Post. Moreover, be sure to check out the "Virtual Patch Collection" nested under the Troop 24 parent site. You patch collectors out there will be astonunded!

USSCOUTS
This is the absolute best, most authoritative web site I've found when it comes to Advancement requirements. Great cross-references to older Advancement requirements, plus changes from previous versions noted in the current versions. Even has the complete requirements listed for Cub Scouts Sports and Academics Program! Awesome clip art and graphics collection for all BSA programs, as well as some GSUSA programs. Also offers a fairly decent collection of downloadable skits, plus links to many other Scouting web sites.

The Virtual Cub Leader's Handbook
Provides nearly one stop shopping answers to just about any Cub Scout related question that might possibly pop up. This site also features clip art and loeads of other fun stuff.

Mike Walton's web site. Loads of Scouting information from a recongized authority. additionally you may email Mike questions and I've found him to be very responsive in getting you an answer or at least pointing you in the right direction.

Roger Knapp Another authority with years of Scouting experience. Great Scouting links and jokes.

San Francisco Bay Area Council's offical site, which features many downloadable forms in electornic format. For those involved in the rechartering process, the forms section of this site offers "recharter.pdf", an invaluable recharter checklist. If you go into the SFBAC trading post be sure to check out the Cub Scout Trail Trekker Hikes, a series of eight trails speciafically suited for boys aged 6 - 11 and their families. the descriptions are excellent and give you nearly every detail you'd like to know about plus great recommendations that tie into other Cub Scouting programs. When all 8 are earned and placed around the central patch, they make a complete larger patch that will be the pride of any boy's collection.

www.macscouter.com/
Another good all around site with a super listing of games, songs, ceremonies, etc.

Cub Pack 403/
In my opinion, a super example of how a web site can be used to help a Cub Pack "get on the same page". Note the newsletter and calendar features.

P.R.A.Y.
This URL is the web site for the Programs of Religious Activities ffor Youth, which administers the various religious emblem programs available to youth organizations like 4-H, Camp Fire Boys & Girls, GSBSA, and the BSA. If you have a member interested in obtaining a religious emblems award (that's the silver square knot on rectangular purple cloth background worn immediately above and centered on the left pocket, not to be confused with the World Crest emblem, my suggestion is to first visit the Awards section of the National Council web site, then use P.R.A.Y.'s search function for specific information about the faith in question.

http://d3.dir.scd.yahoo.com/recreation/outdoors/scouting/boy_scouts_of_america/
This part of the powerful Yahoo search engine is reserved just for Scouting and related issues. It's a very handy way to search the Internet for other BSA units's web sites and Scouting related content.

Boys Life or Scouting magazine - always a good resource.

Sherry Nolan's gumbo soup page of topics/issues of interest, some scout related, some not. (Nothing that needs to be screened) (check back later)

more to come...
