Looking for something "not too big" to volunteer for at the district level? One of the most remarkable things about Boy Scouts is that it is made up of volunteers; PEOPLE LIKE YOU, who willing to give their time to help teach a young boy, or a young girl, to be a caring, giving, honorable young adult and to help make our community a better place. Come join us in making the Aklan district run smoothly and have a good time too. Adults or responsible Boy Scouts are welcome to join the Aklan District Committee.

For your consideration:

1. District: Popcorn Chair
attend training, get the word out to the packs/dens/troops, help promote at roundtable. Duration September through Nov. Contact Sherry Nolan

2. Good at organization? How about organizing the district awards dinner in March? No need to recreate the wheel, just add improvements wherever you want and help steer the ship. Grab a friend of two to help and do a bit of computer work, phone calling, etc... This is a no brainer for those w/ a flair. The District dinner starts planning in Nov, (need location) and is usually 1st Sat. in March. Contact Sherry Nolan

3. Loved the Pinewood derby??? Tony Fakonas is going to be heading up COUNCIL WIDE Blackhawk 500 derby March 22nd. He is looking for some crew mates. This is a really fun event. Planning will begin in early fall. You can help a little bit or take on a "section" ie., crafts, food, race crew, check in etc... Contact Tony Fakonas

4. 10 Commandments Bike ride. Have you been on this? It is a lot of fun, very enlightening. Looking for either a Boy Scout or adult to plot out next year's course. Held the Saturday before the first Sunday in Feb. Can be in either Lafayette, Orinda, or Moraga. Need 5 churches to stop at, 5 church leaders willing to chat about 2 commandments at each church and the last church willing to let us use their fellowship hall for lunch. This is an easy event to plan. If you can line up the churches by Oct/Nov. that is best. The rest is just making a map, figuring out lunch, maybe a patch... no big deal. Contact Sherry Nolan

5. Camping and Outdoor Chair: This position has been vacant for too long! Do you love the outdoors. Your job would be to promote cub day camp, and cub/scout resident camp, national high adventure camps. You find the info. and pass it on. Team up w/ the OA and lets get everyone outside camping!!! Yahoo! Contact Jerry Stinson 254-2955

6. Roundtable Commissioner: Now this job is really a no brainer - just make sure the Scout and Cub Roundtables are running smoothly and help out as needed. Contact Jerry Stinson 254-2955

7. Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner: Don't you think being a boy scout is the best??? Help excite, turn on, inform and encourage Boy Scout leaders by providing a monthly Roundtable meeting. The 2003-2003 season has already be planned - all you have to do is steer the ship. Make sure your speakers remember to show up, and stay on top of "the news" so you can make sure our Scout leaders are well informed and up to date on the latest news.Contact Jerry Stinson 254-2955

8. Troops: why don't you adopt a month to host Scout Roundtable?? Highlight what your troop does best or organize your boys to teach a training class to the adult leaders. Contact Sherry Nolan or Gerald Del Rio

9. Son graduating into Boy Scouts? Did you love Cub Scouts? Join the Cub Roundtable staff, not too much for anyone. We are splitting up the responsibilities to make it easy on everyone. Join Patti, Melissa and Sherry for some laughs and fun. Contact Sherry Nolan

10. Where you a Cub Scout Leader? Willing to share what you know with new Cub leaders? Join our Cub Training Staff once or twice a year and help new leaders become great leaders! Contact John Spahr.

11. What no Scout-O-Rama??? What should we do??? How about hosting a district advancement fair??? We could take over camp Herms and make it a weekend event, with camping included. Set up Friday night, all day Saturday and capped off by a joyous Scout Sunday observance. Sound cool? Volunteer to chair all or part. Volunteer to teach a merit badge to boy scouts, or be part of the tenderfoot to first class trail, or teach cub scout advancements. Troops: want to recruit cubs??? You are welcome to volunteer to host an event, rockets, climbing, archery etc... Packs: want to recruit new cubs, invite them to "check it out". Contact Sherry Nolan
