3x3 Eyes

Fuji Yakumo is an ordinary high school student, until he runs into Pai, literally. Pai appears to be a young and cute girl who is a bit lost. but we find out that Pai is actually a survivor of a mythical race called the Sanjiyan who are all but extinct. In effect, Pai is an immortal 300-year-old 'monster' with 3 eyes. Yakumo's first encounter with Pai leads to his death, upon which he is resurrected as her 'Wu', an immortal and indestructible servant of a Sanjiyan. Soon enough, Yakumo joins Pai in her quest to become human.

The 3x3 Eyes anime is based on the comic series by Takada Yozo, directed by Nishio Daisuke and written by Endo Akinori. The WAY cool music is composed by Wada Kaoru. It has one 4 part OVA, and a 3 part OVA called "Shin 3x3 Eyes". Released in 1995.

The first series was great, but the second was even better. Yakumo in the second series is a lot stronger and not so whinny. He now knows how to handle his powers and is more confindent in them and in himself. The art and story are better and Yakumo actually open his eyes now. AND, Yakumo is REALLY cool, as Pai said^_^ What I hate AND love about 3x3 Eyes is what happened to Pai and Yakumo, and the Sanjiyan. I won't say what it is, because it'll be even more a spoiler than what I'm saying now-_-; But to those who already watched it, you'd know what I mean, ne?

Even with all its blood and gore, Takada Yozo still managed to pulled it off and 3x3 Eyes turned out to have a good story behind it from start to finish, laced with a few comedic moments!
*A side commment: I would suggest staying away from dub, but unfortunately, only the dub is available commercially.

Dual!
~Parralel Trouble Adventure~

Dual! follows Kazuki Yotsuga as he lives a life that is quite far from normal. First, he gets these visions of robots (he called one Halzenan) fighting right in the middle fo their city, but only HE can see them. Practically the whole population of their school thinks he's a freak... but there's always one exception. Mitsuki Sanada, a POPULAR girl in their school, thinks that he is quite interesting. She takes him to her father, Ken Sanada, a physicist working on the theory of the existence of a parrallel world. And since Kazuki can see objects that aren't really there, Ken belives that he just might be the one that can prove his theory. Accidentally, Kazuki is sent to a parrallel world. The world where all he people he knows are almost entirely different, and where Halzenan actually exists...but HE doesn't. He beocomes an ace corps robot pilot with 100% life sympathy. Along with Sanada-san (who is the chief commander of the UN there), Mitsuki (who also becomes a corps robot pilot), and a few other people trying to get their hands on him, Kazuki tries to survive in the parrallel world, eventually finding himself.

Fushigi Yuugi

Fushigi Yuugi follows Miaka's adventures when she and her best friend Yui gets sucked in an ancient book called Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho roughly translated as "Book of the Four Gods of Heaven and Earth".

"As the page is turned, the story will become real and begin," Yui reads.
As soon as the line was read, the two were transported into what looked and felt like ancient China... and the story began. After meeting Tamahome, and separated from Yui, Miaka discovers she is in the southern country called Konan.

The Konan Emperor, Saihitei, upon finding that Miaka is from another world, asks her to become the Suzaku no Miko (Priestess/Maiden of Suzaku.) If she can gather seven Seishi, seven people who have been chosen by the god Suzaku to act as her protectors, she can call upon the god to grant her 3 wishes. The Emperor Saihitei asks that she use one of the wishes to save his country from the Emperor of Kutou, who wants to invade Konan.

However, Kutou later finds the Miko for their god, Seiryuu. Yui becomes Seiryuu no Miko, Miaka's enemy, through a cruel set of misunderstandings.

Best friend pitted against best friend, and the beginning of a love between a Miko and one of her Seishi that will be put to the test so many times....

Fushigi Yuugi began running on TV from March of 1995 to February of 1996 on Tokyo Television. It was subsequently released on 14 laserdiscs, each laserdisc holding 4 episodes and roughly corresponding to a volume of the manga. The sixth and final episode of OVA 2, that covers the end of the FY manga, came out on October 28 (the last mini-album I think comes out August 28.)

The Special OVA was released on July 25, 1996. It was a 60-minute special which basically recapped the story and special scenes, and contained interviews with the seiyuu. It also contained the hilarious 2-part omake, "Nakago Shikkari Shinnasai" ("Hang in there, Nakago!")

Gatekeepers

It is 1969, the 44th year of Showa, Japan is undergoing industrialization. Amidst the modernization, most people are unaware of the evil that is roaming about. This is the story of Gatekeepers, who fight aliens called Invaders...

Ukiya Shun is a high school student living with his mother and younger sister, Saemi. He loves kendo (though he's not officially good at it) and delivers newspapers after school. One afternoon, people (more specifically, cruel ones) are suddenly sort of hypnotized and start walking around in one crowd, their stride simultaneous. They out on sunglasses and turn into Invaders, and attack an AEGIS bus. Ikusawa Ruriko, a gatekeeper onboard, fight the Invaders, but not quite successful. The Invaders fuse to form a huge ball, and starts rolling towards Shun's home. Out of desperation to save his mom and sister, Ukiya-kun throws a can to the Invader ball, and opens a blue gate...

Gatekeepers follows Ukiya-kun and the Gatekeepers party, along with the Earth Defense Unit, in fighting the Invaders and keeping peace on our planet...GEETO! OPEN!!!

Ranma 1/2

Ranma 1/2 is about a 16-year-old boy named Saotome Ranma of the Saotome School of Anything-Goes Martial Arts. While training in Jusenkyo, China, he and Genma, his father, fell into cursed springs. Now when they are splashed with cold water, Ranma becomes a girl, and Genma turns into a panda.

To make matters worse, Ranma finds out that his father engaged him to marry one of the daughters of Tendo Soun, Genma's best friend of the Tendo Dojo in Nerima, Tokyo. The Tendo girls are Kasumi, Nabiki and Akane. It was soon decided that Akane should marry Ranma since she hates boys, and Ranma is just half a boy. Akane refuses to marry a hentai, and Ranma, for his part, isn't very happy being engaged to a kawaiikunee tomboy, either

Together with their many "friends", they travel places, and fight people to save their skins, for revenge on something, or just for the heck of it.

The Ranma 1/2 manga is written by Takahashi Rumiko, which began appearing in the Japanese magazine Shounen Sunday in September '87 and the last one was out in February '96. It was eventually a hit with Rumiko's current and new fans. It ran for 38 volumes.

It became an anime in 1989 and ended in 1992. Ranma 1/2 has 18 TV episodes; it was cancelled for rework, though. The second season onwards was called Ranma1/2 Nettouhen, which has 143 TV episodes.

As far as I know, Ranma 1/2 has 2 movies: Big Trouble in Nekonron China, Nihao my Concubine. There are also 6 OAVs. I don't know the chronological arrangement, though. If anybody knows which is which, just tell me ok...

  • One Flew Over Kuno's Nest
  • Akane and Her Sisters
  • An Akane to Remember
  • I'll Be the One to Inherit Mom's Cooking!
  • Shampoo's Sudden Switch
  • Growing Up with Ms. Ninomiya
  • Tendo Family Christmas Scramble

    Recca no Honou

Hanabishi Recca is a Hokage Ninja sent to the present time. He has the power to control flames because he is the son of a Hokage Ninja leader, Ouka, and is sent to present time by his mother, Kagerou.

The series starts out when Recca doesn't know about his power yet, and he is just a normal high school boy, pretty much obsessed with the cultures and traditions of the ninja. Recca finds out about his power when he was defending his princess, Sakoshita Yanagi, from a mysterious woman named Kagehoushi, (hehe...does this name ring a bell?).

The rest of the series is basically how the Hokage team was built. The team is made up of (of course) Recca, having the power of flame casting; Recca's friend, holder of the madougu Fuujin, Kirisawa Fuuko; Ishijima Domon, holder of the Dosei, the ring of Saturn; Mikagami Tokiya, seeking revenge for his sister, holder of the Ensui; and Koganei Kaoru, a totally SMART 13-yr-old, former memeber of the Uraha Jusshin, holder of the Kougan Anki. Now the team is complete, and the fun begins...

Like all other stories, RnH has a villain. There's Kurei, another Hokage Ninja and flame caster, leader of the Uruha Jusshin; and Mori Kouran, a millionaire who sponsors the Urabutou Satsujin.

The second part of the series involves the Urabutou Satsujin, and the team's combats and sacrifices. It would be too long of a story, so I'll just stick to that.

A.k.a "Flame of Recca," RnH is a manga first published in 1995 by Shogakukan Inc. It was converted into a TV series, with a total of 42 episodes, in two parts, which ended in July 1998. Although the anime ended, the manga is still running and I think there's so far 18 manga.

The story is really similar to Yu Yu Hakusho. So those of you who have seen Yu Yu Hakusho may feel this story to be kind of boring. But the story is pretty cool because of the madougu. As opposed to the internal magic power, the madougu are man-made, and are in fact made by ninja. In addition, in YYH, the emphasis is only on guys. The only female fighter is Genkai. However, in Flame of Recca, the girls play much more important role.

Especially for FoR, I made a madougu encyclopedia in my bookshelf! Click here to go to the page:)

    Taiho Shichau Zo!

Tsujimoto Natsumi is introduced as a straightforward and STRONG biker girl who gets a job at the Bokuto police station. She doesn't really get along well at first with her new partner, Kobayakawa Miyuki, but later, they become best of friends.

The story revolves around their friendship, their duties as police officers, and...hehe..their lovelife.

Miyuki is usually teased to Nakajima Ken (who is actually in love with her). Natsumi on the other hand, gets a temporary crush on the Chief. But later, her real partner is revealed to be Tokairin Shouji, a mountain police officer sent to help them on a rescue mission on the Tokyo Tower. Too bad he had to leave for the mountains! *_*

Also part of the gang are Nikaido Yoriko, a lively girl who loves to gossip, Aoi Futaba, a *beautiful* transvestite, and Saori, a high school student and a would-be policewoman.

TSZ written by Kosuke Fujishima. It is made into a 52-episode anime a.k.a "You're Under Arrest." Sometimes the storyline is shallow, but a good episode always pops up. Overall, I love this anime. It's funny, but has real-life themes shown with depth.

    TTS Airbats

They're the elite aerialists of the all female 801st Tactical Training Squadron, codenamed AIRBATS, and I'm gonna quote my brother here: "Do these aces have curves in all the right places!" But don't let those good looks fool you! When these girls slip into the cockpit and take a pulsing joystick in their hands, the air to air action is as hot as it can get! It can be one of those "don't underestimate girls" types. They're romantic rivals Haneda Miyuki, and Mitaka Arisa, easygoing classic Japanese singer Saginomiya Sakura, and small and sweet Shimorenjaku Yoko. Wondering why Miyuki and Arisa are romantic rivals? It's because of Isurugi Takuya, the extremely worked over flight mechanic, and the sole male member of the squad!

Don't let the typical all females type of anime fool you into thinking this is one of those flesh teaser. It is actually very funny in my humble opinion. Think Tenchi Muyo^_^ It's a very enjoyable anime, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Created by Shimizu Toshimitsu, with character design and direction by Moriyama Yuji. Other directors are: Osamu Mikasa, Junichi Sakata, Tohru Yoshida. Released in 3 OAV episodes.

    Urusei Yatsura

Urusei Yatsura is an anime by Takahashi Rumiko. the main storyline is about how Lum, an alien girl came to meet Moroboshi Ataru, a *pervert* earthling.

Lum's race, the oni, come to earth proposing to take over it, unless someone beats their champion in a ten-day game of tag. Somehow, it is Ataru that was chosen to represent the earth. If he loses, the aliens will invade. But if he wins, the aliens will go home. Ataru isn't at all willing to play tag until he sees the alien's champion: the beautiful Lum.

Lum falls for Ataru, and vice versa, but Ataru is such a woman-chaser that he is afraid to commit to one person. And Lum's following him around doesn't help, either.

The rest of the series show how Lum and Ataru deal with this kind of relationship, and the troubles brought about by Lum's weird alien "friends" and gadgets.

    Urusei Yatsura has 6 movies:

  • Lum, Only you
  • Urusei Yatsura Final Chapter
  • Lum The Forever
  • Beautiful Dreamer
  • Remember My Love
  • Always, My Darling

    Yu Yu Hakusho

Yu Yu Hakusho is about Urameshi Yusuke, a 15-yr-old boy who having strong reiki (spiritual power). He dies in the first episode in the process of saving a child from being hit by a car. Botan, a minor deity of death, comes to take him to Koenma to get a chance to live again. He does live again, with the help of his childhood freind, Yukimura Keiko, and his mom Atsuko, and he becomes a detective for Reikai. He teams up with Kurama and Hiei, two demons assigned to work with him, and Kuwabara Kazuma, a rival and best friend in one. And so the team is complete, and the fun begins...
