THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
Accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools the program is operated through the University of Nebraska in the United States. Students who meet the specific requirements established by the University of Nebraska Independent Study High School Program are granted an accredited diploma from the University of Nebraska.
All students who enroll as diploma students must have earned a minimum of 200 credit hours (or 20 units of Carnegie credit) before they will be granted an accredited diploma from the UNL Independent Study High School. Students with credits from other high schools must complete a minimum of five courses (25 credits hours, equivalent to 2 ½ Carnegie units) through the UNL program, regardless of the number of credits accepted for transfer from other schools.

The independent study course materials are designed
to focus on the unique needs of independent study students. The course
materials provide all the information students need to complete a course
successfully. The materials are laid out in a step by step fashion.
Self-check exercises are include in the syllabus so that students can know
how they are doing. Daily guidance and instruction is provided by high school
teachers.
The tuition for AISL Independent Study High School is $5,000 per year plus a
$1,500 book fee. Students enrolled in sequential courses have one year from
the date they successfully complete the first semester to complete its second
semester counterpart. A student may not complete a course in less than 35
days from the date the first written work is received at the University of
Nebraska without advance permission of the administrator of the school.

AISL students graduating from the Independent Study Program
earn a high school diploma from the University of Nebraska
qualifying them as candidates for application to universities in the United
States and in Canada.
The University of Nebraska Independent Study High School is fully accredited with the Nebraska Department of Education and the North American Association Commission on Schools. AISL is fully accredited with Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The UNL Distance Education Department has received 52 awards in the past two decades from the University Continuing Education Association for the development and design excellence of its independent study materials.
The high school curriculum includes 163 distance education courses, including
a college preparatory sequence and a general studies track for graduation
requirements. All student required materials and texts are provided by AISL.
High school students at AISL prepare their
independent study course work under the guidance, monitoring, and instruction
of AISL staff. They are required to work on campus in the secondary
classrooms, following the regular school schedule for arrival and departure
each day.
In addition their studies are enhanced by classes in PE, Music, Art,
technology. Sporting events are available after school, free to the AISL
student. Educational trips reach beyond the classroom and immediate
community.
Leadership opportunities are provided by the student government led by the
high school students. Student leaders plan service projects and activities
for the student body. High school students serve as role models for the
younger students within this family-oriented educational setting.
