  • All computers and devices connected to a central device such as hub or switch .

  • All data transfer from one node to another passes through a central device (hub/switch) in both directions .

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
  1. Easy to add and remove nodes  as it doesn't affect the network .
  2. A failure of the cable will only affect one node . Hence , faults are easier to be detected .
  3. Easy to expand the network as user can just add node to the hub/switch .

   1 .  If the central device fails , the wole network will be down (stop  working) . 
   2 .  Requires more cables . Therefore , more expensive to setup the network .
