 ALGEBRA II (WEIGHTED)

 

Prerequisite - Successful completion of Algebra I with a grade of C- or better.

 

Description – This course builds on Algebra I and will prepare the student for

Trigonometry\Pre-Calculus or College Algebra

 

Content –

  1. The student will be able to solve equations and inequalities

 

            A.  Use the order of operations to evaluate expressions and use formulas

            B.  Determine sets of numbers

                  IA1

            C.  Use properties of real numbers

                  IA7

            D.  Use equations to solve problems

                  IA6

            E.  Solve equations containing absolute value

                  IA8

            F.  Solve and graph inequalities

 

            G.  Solve and graph compound inequalities

 

 

  1. The student will be able to identify, graph and solve linear relations and functions

 

A.  Graph a relation, state its domain and range, determine if the relation is a function, find the values of the function

            B.  Identify and graph equations that are linear and write them in standard form

                  

            C.  Determine the slope and intercepts of a line.

 

D.  Write an equation in either slope intercept form or standard form when given either one points and the slope or two points

E.  Graph parallel and perpendicular lines of a given equation

           

F.  Identify special functions

           

G.  Draw graphs of inequalities in two variables

 

  1. The student will be able to solve systems of equations and inequalities in two or three variables

  1. Students will be able to solve equations involving logarithmic and exponential function.

C.  Solve equations or simplify and evaluate expression using properties of logarithms

 

D.  Find natural logarithms of numbers

 

 

  1. Students will be able to use basic mathematic operations with monomials and polynomials  IA4

 

            A.  Add and subtract monomials and polynomials

 

            B.  Multiply monomials and polynomials

 

            C.  Use powers with monomials and polynomials

 

            D.  Factor polynomials by GCF, Trinomials, Grouping and Cubes

 

            E.  Divide polynomials by long and synthetic division

 

 

  1. Students will be able to simplify Radical Expressions and solve Radical equations

 

            A.  Simplify radical expressions and rational exponents and complex numbers

 

B.   Use the four basic math operations with Radical expression and rational exponents and complex numbers

           

C.  Rationalize the denominator of a fraction with radical expressions

 

D.  Combine radical expressions and rational exponents using the four basic math operations

           

E.  Translate radical expressions to rational exponents and vise versa.

 

 

  1. Students will be able to solve Quadratic Equations

 

            A.  By factoring

           

B.  By using square roots

           

C.  By Completing the Square

           

D.  By using the quadratic formula

           

E.  Solve higher degree equations that contain a quadratic factor

 

  1. The student will be able to graph quadratic function.

 

            A.  Graph using the vertex form and identify the important parts of the function

 

            B.  Solve quadratic inequalities in one variable

 

            C.  Graph quadratic inequalities

 

 

  1. The student will be able to simplify rational expressions and solve Rational equations

 

            A.  Simplify rational expressions

 

            B.  Perform the four basic math operations with rational expressions
