Alpha Gamma Sigma is the statewide honor society of the California Community Colleges. AGS was founded in 1925 by William T. Boyce, and currently has a chapter in almost every California Community College from the College of the Siskiyous in Weed to Southwestern College in Chula Vista. The Psi Lambda Kappa chapter of West Los Angeles College was established nearly two decades ago and has been an active campus organization ever since.

Membership Requirements |

To become a member of AGS, you need to have completed 12 collegiate units with a minimum 3.0 gpa. Every member needs to turn in an application along with a copy of their unofficial transcripts and the $10 registration fee at the beginning of each semester. To maintain your membership you are required to do 20 hours of community service every semester, 5 hours of on-campus service, 5 hours of off campus service and an additional 10 hours of either on-campus or off-campus service. All members must also maintain at least a 3.0 gpa each semester. As a reward for your academic achievement and your involvement in AGS you will receive a certificate of completion for every semester you are a member and your participation will be noted on your transcript.

Scholarships |

Our chapter currently offers three scholarships to its members. These scholarships are given to members who exemplify three of the core AGS ideals being service to the community, scholastic achievement and leadership. To apply for these awards simply fill out the West LA College scholarship packet and indicate which award(s) you would like to be considered for.
Help us offer a fourth scholarship by purchasing treats from our bake sales or by grabbing a slice at pizza night.

Pizza Night is one of our newest fundraising events. We will be selling pizza, soda, fruit, water and teddy bears every Wednesday night from 6pm to 7:30pm near parking lot 5. The money raised during Pizza Night goes toward paying for Teacher Appreciation Day and Scholarships. |

Teacher Appreciation Day |

Every semester the students of AGS each select one of their past or current professors to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the students of West LA College. At the Teacher Appreciation Day ceremony the professors are presented with a framed Teacher's Excellence Award and the students have the opportunity to talk about why they chose to honor their professor. |
