::blinks:: I dunno why, I just got it into my head to write a Chibi Tai & Sora fic. The one thing I found out is...it's easier to write about little kids because they feel everything so completely, they're never uncertain, and you can use big fancy words. ^_^ ::he he::

........................................
Tai was running for the ball, a budding soccer player even though he hadn't yet entered kindergarten. He laughed and chased it onto the playground, which was mostly empty except for a few kids on the swings on a girl on the slide.  He had just about reached the ball when he skidded on the loose gravel of playground and unable to stop himself, tripped over the ball and skinned his knee. His four-year-old world shattered into pieces as he sat on the gritty ground and sobbed his big chocolate eyes out. The girl on the slide hopped down to see what was wrong. "What happened?" she asked, shoving her thumb into her mouth. Tai, still crying, pointed to his knee. The little girl bent over his scrape, and seeing that it wasn't that bad, straightened up again. She laughed scornfully, every inch of her 2-and-a-half foot form reeking in disdain. "That's nuffing."   She said. She squatted on the gravel next to Tai. "Now that's a real cut." The girl pulled back her jean leg so a 3-inch half-healed cut on her shin showed. Tai gaped at it, very impressed, his tears forgotten. "How'd you get that? Did you cry? Was your mommy mad?"  The little girl grinned proudly. "I was gonna climb that high," -she pointed to the monkey bars-"And I fell. I didn't cry one little bit."  She smiled smugly. "Not even when my mommy put stuff on it that stung so I wouldn't get a-a-" Apparently, the she had forgotten the word.  She shrugged eloquently. "You know." Tai was in awe of her bravery and strength in dire times. "Was your mommy mad?" he repeated. The girl's amber eyes got a little watery. "No." she said, jamming her thumb back into her mouth. "My mommy doesn't care about me. Neiffer does my daddy," she continued, speaking muffled through her thumb. "They don't care what I do. So I do stuff to make them pay attention to me." The girl sniffled. "Like climbing the big kid monkey bars."  Tai felt sympathy make his heart swell up and he immediately felt 4-year-old compassion for this girl. He sat down next to her and put a comforting, chubby arm around her shoulders. "I'm sure your mommy loves you."   he consoled sincerely. A sudden thought struck him. "What's your name, anyway?"  The girl stopped pouting. "Sora. What's yours?" "Tai. Wanna play soccer?"  "Okay!" Sora answered cheerfully, over her tears with the rebound power only a pre-kindergartener possesses. They ran out onto the field and started kicking around the soccer ball, missing more often than not, and laughing anyway. Tai kicked the ball all the way past the playground and they both ran after it. At the edge of the field, Tai tripped again, and they both rolled down the little hill that marked the end of the park. Sora straightened up, still laughing, and tugged Tai to his feet. "Let's do it again!' she shouted happily.  The kids ran up the hill together just to roll down, and collapsed in a giggling heap once they reached the bottom. As they lay there, a tall figure gracefully bent down towards the light-hearted 4 year olds. "Sora, hon, we have to go home now."  The figure said benevolently. Sora poked Tai. "Fat's my mommy." She quasi-whispered.  Tai poked her back. "She seems nice."  Sora shrugged and was picked up by her mother, seeming to Tai as if she soared above the reach of ordinary mortals. "You'll be here tomorrow, right?" Tai asked earnestly. "I hope so. Bye-bye, Tai!" "Bye, Sora!" In went the thumb as Sora was carried away, waving back to where Tai stood, bemoaning the temporary loss of his new friend.
Until the next day. And the day after that. And the day after that.  Soon, as their parents noticed the budding friendship between their children, they met at the park every day. Tai and Sora played soccer together, went on the swings together, even planned to get married and live in a big white house with a horsie and two soccer fields. And this was all before they went into elementary school. As they got older, their friendship got stronger.  Until it got stronger than friendship. And that's when Tai and Sora fell in love.
They never did get the horsie or the two soccer fields, but they lived in the big white house they had dreamed about, and had two sons that loved soccer as much as their parents. And who knows? Maybe their sons will someday meet the love of their life just by tripping over a soccer ball, too. ........................................
