Lecture 2: Skin
Objectives:
At the end of this session you will be able to:
Identify and label the three layers of the skin: epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous fat layer (hypodermis)
Identify and label the epidermal layers: cornfield, lucid, granular, prickle cell, basal layer
Identify structures found in dermis: hair follicle, erector pili muscle, eccrine and apocrine glands and ducts, sebaceous gland and sebum, blood and lymph capillary network, sensory and motor never endings
Identify and explain functions of the sebaceous gland: production of sebum and its functions
Explain factors involved in determining skin colour
Outline functions of the skin
Identify factors that determine skin condition
Explain effects of the sunlight on skin
Explain what happens during the processes of vasodilation and vasoconstriction
List functions of the skin
