The monument is located ~40 miles north of Phoenix, on the east side of I-17, between Black Canyon City (exit 244) and north of Cordes Junction. Main access is via the Badger Springs (exit 256) and the Bloody Basin Roads (exit 259).
The monument contains the following objects of scientific interest; The purpose of this volunteer created web site is to enhance the use and understanding of your public lands. On this web site, we document and present only the geological features of the AFNM. The geology presented here is to enhance the scientific understanding of the AFNM area for both professional and public use. There hasn't been any detailed mapping or research done in most of the AFNM area. For the public, (science teachers, students, home schoolers, hikers, visitors, campers & hunters) only a mininal knowledge of geological terms and concepts is required for understanding the basic AFNM geology. Unlike other areas around the monument, the geology in the AFNM is not very complex but interesting and deversified and covers about 1.6 Ga of time. The AFNM is a great place to study some basic Arizona geology. We are attempting to make this easy with our digital camera pictures. Visiting geologists can obtain Maps and Reports of the general area at the Arizona Geological Survey in Tucson AZGS
NOTE1: Because of limited disk space on this free server, we are only able to present a small number of the digital camera pictures we have taken of the monument area geology.
NOTE2: This web site is best viewed with Netscape 4.7 or higher, there is a difference! Monitor Colors = High Color (16 bit) & Monitor Screen Area = 800 by 600
