The Chestnut tree that inspired Anne during her two years
in hiding was reported, as recently as last spring, to get chopped
down due to a fungus. But the
tree remains
standing. It appears there is still time to lodge a complaint and
that the tree can be saved. Last month, an environmentalist argued that
they manage
the tree well to save it.

"For now, the 'Anne Frank Tree' lives on, while those, wanting to keep the
tree try to influence political will and find sponsors to underwrite liability
and management costs."
