While Barbara Epstein worked at Doubleday, she urged the publication of Anne's diary in the U.S. The diary was published in the U.S. in 1952, and she was its editor. She also became friends with Anne's father, Otto. She co-founded the New York Review of Books in 1963 and guided it for 40 years. She died of lung cancer in New York City last Friday, June 16th.
