Books I Haven't Read (yet)
There doesn't seem to be much going on in the world, Anne-Frank-wise,
so I thought I would list some of the books I have not read yet, but
which sound interesting. (The links are to the Amazon.com pages.)
- Eva's Story, by Eva Schloss. The same age as Anne,
she lived in the same neighborhood, and later would become Anne's
father's step-daughter, Eva writes about her experiences, including
her time in concentration camps. This is supposed to be a very good book, well
written and a very interesting life story.
- Night of the Girondists, by Jacques Presser
This man was a schoolteacher (Hanneli mentioned him in her autobiography)
during the Holocaust.
Presser's wife was deported and died, while he was
able to survive in hiding. He apparently helped out at the Jewish Council,
and he apparently goes over his feelings of confusion about this after
the war.
(The Jewish Council was doubtless well-meaning
but the Nazis used it as their tool for gaining the trust of Jews
and getting information about them for deportation).
A Dutch e-friend thinks every school curriculum should include this book.
- My Friend Anne Frank, by Jacqueline van Maarsen.
One of Anne's more intense and opinionated friends,
Jacque tells her story.
The young adult version is newer:
A Friend Called Anne
