Grand Falls

Grand Falls are located on the Dead River several miles north of the flow from Flagstaff Lake. Take the King and Bartlett Road off of Rt. 27 North of Stratton and head and almost immediately bear to the right, follow this road about 7 miles to a fork, bear uphill and to the left. The road starts to deteriorate from here. Follow down to the falls for some of the best flyfishing on the Dead River. The falls are uphill from the bridge where the Dead River Rafting trip begins. Grand Falls are unique as they are the only horseshoe falls in Maine. A small hikinh trail leads around the falls to a cliff with great front views of the falls.
This is the road into Grand Falls. Be ready to get muddy. My AWD Volvo V70 Cross Country had no trouble, neither did my Nissan Maxima the year before.

Here I am Fly Fishing at the base of the Falls. I recommend a "Wholly-Bugger" for both Salmon and Trout. The best part of the fall season is relaxing at Sugarloaf/USA for the weekend and heading up the falls for some fly fishing. You can't beat it!
