The Bigelow Range
The Bigelow Range located in Franklin & Somerset County
provide an excellent range hiking opportunities from one to
three day hikes. The views are Spectacular!! Sugarloaf USA
to the immediate south and Flagstaff lake just to the north.

I have hiked on the Bigelow's three times. Twice originating out
of Stratton. Both times we arrived friday afternoon and hiked
into cranberry pond, through the horns and up to Horns Pond.
There is a nice Lean-to there, we tented the firat time but
lightened our load the second time and slept in hammocks.
There is another Lean-to off West Peak (4,150 Ft.)
The first hike was two nights, one at Horns Pond, one at West
Peak and then down the Firewardens Trail to a second car.
The Firewardens Trail is pretty steep, I would classify the
whole range as a medium to difficult hike.

The second hike also from Stratton, was specifically to include
a day hike saturday (ditching the frame pack at camp) over to
Little Bigelow. I have always wanted to hike the whole range.
A friend in the party got really sick, Sat. morning so Little
Bigelow was out of the picture. Sunday morning we packed out.
The Third hike was a day hike across Little Bigelow over to
West Peak. A nice day hike including a refreshing swim in
Flagstaff Lake at the end.
A great place to hike!
