I don't have a ton of job experience, although I did once work part-time at a Jewel Osco over the summer in between the spring and fall semesters a couple of years ago. In terms of other experience, I have been a tutor in the past, particularly during my years in high school. I enjoy working with others and I like having the opportunity to help others in areas where they might struggle. I enjoy watching people succeed, and so I try my best to be that person to help them get there when they need it.
After having been a tutor and knowing there's a possibility of me working as a TA through graduate school, I feel like I could see myself as a teacher. It's something that I've always considered since I started my college career at Oakton Community College. I really like the idea of being a teacher and making a positive impact on people's lives. I know it requires a lot of work, but I'm sure it's very rewarding and it sounds like the kind of career that I would thoroughly enjoy.
In the short term, I would like to attend graduate school because ideally I would like to teach at the college level. At that time, I will hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and I would like to teach accounting courses, so I plan to work to earn my Master of Science in Accounting. During that time, I'll ideally be working as a TA for a particular professor after he suggested it as a result of me doing well in his course as well as helping others and answering their questions. After I earn my MSA, I will use that to teach accounting at the community college level.
In the long term, if I enjoy teaching at a community college, it's possible that I'll decide to return to school to earn my PhD and possibly teach at a university. It's hard to say what will come after that, but if I can become a tenured professor, then I feel like I will be content with my career choice.
I am half Puerto Rican and half Mexican, but I was born and raised in Chicago. Both of my parents' educational journeys ended with them earning their Associate of Arts degrees. Because of that, I will be the first person in my family to earn a Bachelor's degree, as well as the first to earn a Master's degree, and possibly a PhD.
When it comes to languages, I am very fluent in English. I'm also familiar with a good amount of Spanish having been raised in a partially Spanish-speaking household.
I have been working with technology for many years and have a high level of proficiency in that area. I've worked with both Windows and Mac devices. I have a high level of expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I also have a good amount of knowledge and high level of proficiency in creating webpages through HTML coding.
