Please Don't Bring Me Down

(version 1) Kidd, 1961 (mono), 1992 (stereo).  Recorded: 17-08-61

Johnny Kidd (vocals) - Alan Caddy (lead) - Brian Gregg (bass) - Clem Catinni (drums) - "Thunderclap" Jones (piano)

The original recording features the line "When the time comes that you want to go" was replaced with "If the time comes when I've got to go" by the time this second and more refined version of this song was cut. The resulting single featured the legendary Big Jim Sullivan on lead guitar whose solo successfully mimics the band's contemporary recorded style. Sullivans' skill and prowess should have had him held in as high regard as other session guitarists who went on to greater fame, such as Jimmy Page and Richie Blackmore.

When you're looking for someone new
Kid me on for a month or two
But please don't bring me down
Oh please don't bring me down
Take all the liberties you want to
But keep on kidding, don't say we're through
But please don't bring me down

If you're going out with other guys
I like it much better if you tell me lies
But please don't bring me down
Oh please don't bring me down
If the time comes when I've got to go
I'd rather be two-timed than have to know
But please don't bring me down

(instrumental break)

Take all the liberties you want to
Keep on kidding, don't say we're through
But please don't bring me down
Oh please don't bring me down
Woah please don't bring me down
