Sharpe, 1960. Recorded: 06-10-60 |
Johnny Kidd
(vocals) - Alan Caddy (rthm) - Brian Gregg (bass) -
Clem Catinni (drums) |
There were not too many records released by
UK artists in the very early 1960's rooted in R'n'B and when "Linda
Lu" was
released the group were travelling upwards of 1,000 miles to promote it. The disc was played on
the BBC TV's "Juke Box Jury" while the lads remained hidden to the panel
behind a screen. Adventurous as the song was the audience (who could see
them) appreciated the lads' grins and grimaces when the panel vote it a
"miss". Sadly, it was right and had far-reaching
effects; with a miserly one week in the Top Fifty at 47 it became Kidd's last chart
entry for two years and would precipitate a "mutiny". |

"Now this here's a story 'bout a cute
chick called Lindy Lu. Now I dig Lindy, and Lindy digs me."
Well,
Oh now my girlfriends' name is Patty but her real name, her real name,
Her real name, her real name, her real name is - Linda Lu
Oh well my girlfriends' name is Patty but her real name, her real name,
Her real name, her real name, her real name is - Linda Lu
Well if you ever see her, she'll break your poor heart in two
Well, when she's walkin' down the street
All the cats, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats
SOMETHING
Well, when she's walkin' down the street
All the cats, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats, all the cats
SOMETHING
Well, if she ever leaves me, she'll break my poor heart in two
Well, I'm gonna marry that girl Saturday night
And she'll be mine for the rest of my life
And I'll give her my heart and soul
And it's all because of that chick - Linda Lu
Well, Linda Lu, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, come on home
Had a bad dream last night, you said, you said, you said, you said we
were through
Well, if you ever leave me, you'll break my poor heart in two
Well, I'm gonna marry that girl Saturday night
And she'll be mine for the rest of my life
And I'll give her my heart and soul
And it's all because of that chick - Linda Lu
Well, Linda Lu, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, Lindy, come on home
Had a bad dream last night, you said, you said, you said, you said we
were through
Well, if you ever leave me, you'll break my poor heart in two
Well, I dig you Lindy, yes I do
Well, I dig you Lindy, yes I do
Aaah Lindy, Oooh Lindy (etc to fade) |
