Rob:             We are on a ledge, a path, on a high mountain, with a sheer drop into the darkness. There are flat plains below. It is a starlit night. The path winds away by another rock face. Nearby and leaning on the rock face is the Jester. He stretches in an exaggerated manner.

Barry:          At his side he carries a dark wood flute with four holes. It is inlaid with silver. His dog is with him. He sets off at a fast pace and leaves us breathless.

Rob:             We are climbing a curving path.

Barry:          He stops and turns.

Rob:             “Where are you?” he asks.

“We are on the path Qoph” I reply.

“Why here, and not anywhere else?

“Because we chose to be here” is my response.

“That you are here because you chose to be is an important lesson.” says the Jester.

Barry:          Then he asks, “Why do you follow me?”

Rob:             “We assumed that you are a guide” I reply.

Barry:          “The journey is the important thing. I do not guide you. I show you the journey.”

                     He looks at his dog.

Rob:             He steps straight over the edge. The dog looks at us expectantly. From far below comes a voice, “Come on if you are coming!”

I step over the edge and fall with no sense of rushing air, but instead a sense of leisurely motion.

Barry:          I step forth, and then I feel I am in a mist, it’s like cotton wool and I feel disoriented.

Rob:             Beneath me is the sea, but not made of water. It is quite literally the Sea of Dreams.

Barry:          I am in the same place, but see it differently. I see it as pockets of mist, some are thicker than others. I am not tall enough to put my head out of the mist.

Rob:             The Jester waves his hand. “I can see you.”

Barry:          The Jester forms a ball of mist and hands it to us.

Rob:             This is your dream, and yours. Your dream is part of the whole.

Barry:          I ask why some dreams recur.

Rob:             “Because the Sea of Dreams has tides. On the surface they are of the everyday, but below you encounter the dreams that we share and in the depths the archetypes breathe and live and their breaths cause ripples and tides. I am one of them.”

Barry:          He takes our dream from us.

Rob:             I can sense his strength. He is far stronger here than we are.

Barry:          He sets the dream balls spinning. “I’ll show you your dream” he says and plays on his pipes.

I see a ruined church. I am with a party of people as we jorney through a hidden tunnel of stone. I feel warm and protected inside. The tunnel takes me to the root of the church. There is a door at the far end of the tunnel that I have never passed. It is yet barred to me, but I can see through a window in the door.

Rob:             Here is a key.

Barry:          The key fits. It turns, i hear the lock as it grates and clicks. Inside is a lake. I look upon its moonlit surface.

“Washing would rid you of all knowledge, all experience. This is where you come for rebirth in leaving the tunnel.”

The door clicks and I am back in the Sea with you both.

Rob:             Netzach is eternity.

Barry:          He asks if you wish to see your dream?

Rob:             Yes.

Barry:          He spins your dream in the air on his finger, the pipes blow.

Rob:             I am seated on a high backed throne, in a circular room. Around me in other chairs are men. I hold an orb in one hand and a sceptre in the other. I put them down and stand and walk around. The throne has two sides. On the other seat is a mitre. I put it on my head and sit on the throne. I have on a large ruby ring, it is at least 1cm square. I look out and see before me cardinals and supplicants.

I step away and through a door. I’m in a hot room. I can see a lot of fires burning. Many people drink at long tables. There is much noise and laughter. I feel very ‘out of it’ so I go through another door. There is silence. I’m standing in the middle of nowhere. I feel lonely.

Nowhere becomes the ball spinning on the Jester’s finger.

Barry:          He asks if we want to see his dreams and then we see ourselves reflected back. He laughs.

Rob:             Then he shows us a dream of a temple, we step through and are back in the temple of Malkuth. It seems different, more real, less fuzzy.

Barry:          Strange that this path of unreality seems more real.
