FILTHY, RICH AND CATFLAP

Rik  Mayall had originally planned to write it in partnership with Ben  Elton, but the way it worked out meant that most of the input was Elton's, and Mayall withdrew his name from the author credits.

The show took a satirical swipe at the hypocrisy of show business. Rik Mayall played Richie Rich, a minor celebrity with a major ego and negligible talent; Nigel Planer was his agent, Ralph Filthy , a feckless nonentity of colossal uselessness; and Adrian Edmondson was Richie's minder, Eddie Catflap, a devoted dipsomaniac who still seemed more together than the other two. The six episodes found the three unfriendly low-lifes paddling about in the shallow end of show business, encountering parodies of media people in recognisable but exaggerated television settings, such as game-show sets and the TV-am studios.
