Adrian is the second oldest of four children, his father was a teacher for the Army and taught in various places abroad including Cyprus, Bahrain and Uganda. From the age of 12 Adrian attended Pocklington School,which was a private boarding school, from there he went onto Manchester University where he studied studio drama met Rik  Mayall, chased Ben Elton down corridors hitting him and ultimately gained a 2:1 degree (but not in hitting Ben Elton which seems a shame)

In 1977 he took a one man show to the National Student Drama Festival and went on to appear with Twentieth Century Coyote at the Edinburgh Festival a show which was recorded for radio 4. After various two man shows with the gorgeous Mr Mayall they joined Londons Comedy Store before going on to co found The Comic Strip at the Boulevard Theatre in late 1980...success beckoned  and after an album and short film in 1981 they embarked on a national tour and in 1982 toured Australia (where Ade hit Nigel Planer  in a taxi apparantly) The Young Ones and more violence followed....

After a short lived marriage to Anna ,Ade married fellow comic stripper Jennifer Saunders in 1985 (after some inspired matchmaking from Dawn French ,god bless her!) and they have three daughters,they moved from Richmond to live in Devon in 2000.
