CD RELEASE
Ex-Odds singer goes it all on his own:

Promoting his debut CD Giddy Up, Craig Northey is heading out on tour and he'll hit Nanaimo Feb.23 with an early show at the Queens Hotel.

Northey, known for years as the singer/songwriter for the Odds, has head out as a solo act and, since parting ways, he's been busy with projects as varied as songwriting with Colin James, Rosanne Cash and Wide Mouth Mason, acting as musical director for Kids in the Hall and touring with the show.

Giddy Up is an eclectic collection of tunes formerly only available on his website www.craignorthey.com or at live shows and he says that when he would sell the CD at Kids in the Hall performances, he realized the music - which includes classic Beatles-inspired pop to vintage soul and R&B-was a hit.

"It's a new CD but it was kind of cobbled together a year ago and I was selling it as a kind of humble offering of music that I wanted to do, that shows the influences I've collected."

But as he toured and sold the CD he realized, "IT seemed like nobody saw the CD as anything other than good music they liked," he says. "Working hard in isolation can be a fresh start."

For fans of his work with the Odds, Northey says there will be some recognitions of his "strange lyrics" but instead of the power pop music that band offered, "this has more of a R&B flavour, a bit of hip-hop. I thinks it shows a bit more of my character, of what one person wants to do with no boundaries."

Right now Northeys touring the CD which is distributed by EMI Music in Canada and will take a residency at the Green Room at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, playing there March 18 and 25 and April 18, playing host to various musicians and performers.

This spring he'll continue to tour the CD and then begin working on a record with Jesse Valenzuala of the Gin Blossoms on a new recording which he hopes will be released in the summer.
