The Terminator
In this blazing, cinematic comic book, Arnold Schwarzenegger is perfectly cast as the fiercest and most relentless killing machine ever to threaten the survival of manking. From the Oscar winning director of Titanit, this fast-paced, cleverly conceived, rip roaring action adventure fires an arsenal of thrills, intriguing plot twists and heart-stopping suspense that never lets up for a minute.
In 2029, giant super-computers dominate the planet, hell-bent on exterminating the human race. And to destroy man's future by changing the past, they send an indestructible cybord - a Terminator - back in time to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Can Sarah protect herself from this unstoppable menace to save the life of her unborn child? Or will the human race be extinguished by one mean hunk of mutan metal?

The Film
Good film, but it's dated horribly. Made one year before Back to the Future, how can there seem to be so much of a difference? That said, at least they did attempt to bring visual effects one step forward. The plot is the main advantage of the film - intricate, but its pushed forward in such a way that you never feel left behind. The idea of machines taking over humanity has also been copied so many times it feels clichéd. But, ignore the fact that its extremely dated, and it's a fine film.

The DVD
A lot of features on the second disc (no commentary however. The features are very different, and overall worthy of its special edition tag.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the cybord from the future in the most successful sequel of all time. Almost ten years have passed since Sarah Connor's ordeal began, and her son John, the future leader of the resistance, is now a healthy young boy. However, the nightmare begins again when a new, more deadly Terminator is sent back in time, its orders - to strike at John Connor while he is still a child. Sarah and John, however, don't face this terryfing Terminator alone. The human resistance has sent back another warrior from the future, its orders - to protect John Connor at any cost - the battle for tomorrow has begun...

The Film
The effects are worthy of a special appreciation. They used them extrordinarily, pushing forward filmmaking in general. The effects though, were only to help the plot, as it should be. The plot, however, is more than enough for a great film. On top of this, it hasn't dated nearly so horribly as the first. In fact, it could be half its age - it was ahead of its time. The great shock is its main focus - they turned Schwarzenegger good, which wasn't expected, but they pulled it off extremely well. I think I've seen this too many times though, and it begins to be overlong and a little boring at times. The extra features they've put in, though, should've been in from the start (now I sound like I'm contradicting myself). Perhaps other scenes should've been moved to take their place. Perhaps I'm talking a load of rubbish. Anyway, great sequel, and was needed - the first set up a lot, but didn't have chance to explore much - this one does, and more.
Film: 8/10

The DVD
One of, if not the, best two disc packages around. A commentary track, plus over six hours of features and featurettes on the second disc, which, as far as I can see, don't repeat at all. A must buy.

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Over a decade has passed since John Connor (Nick Stajl) helped to save mankind from mass destruction. Now 22, Connor is faced with the threat of the most sophisticated cybord killing macjine yet, the T-X. Connor's only hope for survival is the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), his mysterious former assassin. Together, they must triumph over the T-X (Kristanna Loken) and forestall the looming threat of Judgement Day.

The Film
I once annoyed some for saying the end. But I'm going to say it again, so don't read if you don't want to know. The fact that they couldn't stop judgement day is this films major achievement. It gives a great (but downbeat) end to an action packed (but little storied) film. The road scene at the beginning is also excellent, though costly. The actors are generally well cast and convincing in their roles, particularly John Connor. The main disadvantage is that it feels to much different from the other two, and almost feels stuck on, like they just decided they needed some money, so they made another Terminator film. The end also sets the scene for more films, although it should really be expected, after the title.
Film: 8/10

The DVD
Enough for a second disc, but anticipating an 'ultimate edition' package soon, which is disappointing really. The two commentaries are entertaining enough though.
