S.W.A.T

S.W.A.T.
Samuel L Jackson and Colin Farrell swagger through S.W.A.T., a guns-and-big-trucks macho extravaganza based on the 1970s TV show of the same name, in which police teams are brought in to take care of extremely dangerous situations. Jackson plays a sergeant brought out of retirement to form a new squad, which includes rebellious Farrell and tough babe Michelle Rodriguez.
After a lot of training and head-butting with a smarmy police captain, the squad gets assigned to transfer the head of a European crime cartel (Olivier Martinez) who's declared on television that he'll give $100 million to anyone who gets him out. Every scumbag in Los Angeles descends to claim the money, turning a routine transfer into a bullet-filled gauntlet. Despite some gaps in logic and a generic flavour, S.W.A.T. will satisfy most action-movie junkies. --
A movie adaptation of the 1970s television series, this is the story of Jim Street, a special tactics team member. Street is demoted after his partner shot dead a hostage but he is given another chance to prove himself...

The Film
Very much a leave-your-brain-outside-film. But the cast they somehow managed to get saved it somewhat, especially Samuel L. Jackson, who turns in a typically good performance. Suffers greatly from 'what point does this scene have to do with the plot', especially for the first act, and then by the time it's done, the action takes over and doesn't stop until the end. Strangely for this type of movie, it seems to go slowly, mostly at the beginning. Maybe some more should've been left on the cutting room floor.
The action is good for the most part, but sometimes a little dark. Not that I mind dark films, just this doesn't seem to fit the bill. And besides that, it's not done too well - you can hardly see what's going on -
(spoiler alert?)
like when Colin Farrell gets stabbed in the arm - it took about three rewinds before I knew what had happened - you just couldn't see anything

(spoiler end)

Entertaining enough overall though, but you just hope for more from something like this. It starts off nicely, building up the tension well, but then after it just gets daft, loses all credibility and seriously ends up being what you originall thuoght when you saw the title.
Film: 6/10

The DVD
A good range of entertaining extras. There's about as much as there should be for this type of release, but the documentaries seems like a overlong trailer. Good enough overall though - but there should be a few more deleted scenes, as I said above.
Disc: 7/10
