Mission: Impossible 1 & 2

Mission: Impossible
Tom Cruise ignites the screen in this runaway smash hit that "holds you on the edge of your seat before blasting you out of it". Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt, a secret agent framed for the deaths of his espionage team. Fleeing from government assassins, breaking into the CIA's most impenetrable vault, clinging to the roof of a speeding bullet train, Hunt races like a burning fuse to stay one step ahead of his pursuers... and one step closer to discovering the shocking truth.

The Film
A highly entertaining extension of the TV series. Feels almost the same, but the benefits of Hollywood. The music in particular is the main link to the TV show, which unfortunately was ignored in the sequel. Feels like a 'complete' film - everything that needs to be done has been done, and done well at that. Some nice set-pieces are its defininition - especially infiltrating the CIA. The first set-piece is the part that feels most like the TV series, which the rest of the film follows, but unfortunately the sequel lacked. The main advantage of this film, however, is its plot. It is so intricate, it's best watched more than once, especially once you find out (or work out) the twist.

Mission: Impossible II
The world's greatest spy returns in the movie event of the year, M:I-2. Top action director John Woo brings his own brand of excitement to the mision that finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) partnering up with the beautiful Nyah Hall (Thandie Newton) to stop renegade agent Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) from releasing a new kind of terror on an unsuspecting world. But before the mission is complete, they'll traverse the globe and have to choose between everything they love and everything they believe in.

A bit of a disappointment really, considering how good the first was. I don't hate this like most people do though, but am dissapointed at the lost opportunity. It's a decent no-brain action movie, although you just can't help thinking about how good it could've been. The main element missed is teamwork, which was a key factor in the original. Instead, this focuses on Tom Cruise. Then a bit more Tom Cruise. I don't dislike him, but he was much better leading a team, as in the original.

The DVD
Extensive. More than makes up for the loss in film. Informative documentaries, but unfortunately they're also mostly a plug for the film. But ignore that, and they're quite good.
