Minority Report

Minority Report
Superstar Tom Cruise is "at his charismatic best"
(Sunday Mirror) in director Steven Spielberg's "terrific race agaisnt time thriller (Radio Times)
For six years, Washington D.C. has been murder-free thanks to astounding technology which identifies killers before they commit their crimes. But when the chief of Precrime Unit (Cruise) is himself accused of a future murder, he has just 36 hours to discover who set him up - or he'll fall victim to the "perfect" system he helped create. It's a mind-blowing action thriller that is "fascinating and utterly absorbing... a triumph not to be missed."

The Film
Don't read the short story. This is way better. Gets you engrossed, and actually wanting Cruise to get away. This has a nicer pace to it than the story, which just feels rushed and hacked together, whereas this seems to have had a little more thought put into it. The futuristic feel is one of the best I've seen, and can't be faulted. If you like a futuristic ultra-modern shine to it, this is definitely the film for you. Some nice twists, but at times this can be too much. The intelligent plot is both its strength and its weakness - some gaping plot holes dismissed with a single line, while others not addressed at all. But ignore that, and just be entertained by it.

The DVD
Standard 2-Disc stuff. Some nice featurettes, which is what the most the second disc is. However, as lacking from other Spielberg films, is a commentary. Apparently, he hates them. But a lot like them, so perhaps he should bow to demand? Maybe not.

Overall
8/10
