High Crimes

High Crimes
Claire Kubik (Judd) is a smart and sexy attorney whose perfect world comes crashing down when the FBI charges her husband Tom (Caviezel) with the murder of innocent civilians during a covert Army operation fifteen years earlier. Aided by a shrewd ex-military lawyer (Freeman), Claire fights to clear Tom's name, but gets too close to exposing a government cover-up in the process. Now she must risk her career-and even her life-to find the truth...

The Film
Does very well at drawing the viewer into the story, this courtroom drama has convincing acting and a nice character driven plot. The main problem is that for a courtroom drama, there are relatively few and short courtroom scenes. The plot seems to wander off into scare-mode, trying (and succeeding) in building up tension and threats to the main characters. The twists at the end are surprising, as the rest of the film had almost gone out of its way to convince you otherwise.
Some acts of stupidity are sometimes laughable, but otherwise an engaging and interesting film.
Film: 7/10

The DVD
Some nice documentaries, with some good behind the scenes moments: "I'm going to sell his vomit on eBay" being one choice moment during the making of the car crash scene. The sequences are well varied, and don't feel like a massive plug for the film, as often occurs.
