Location of the Place

Thopputhurai This place is at the south end of Nagapattinam Dist. and between the East Coast roads of Vedaranyam - Nagapattinam around 25 k.m. Radius. Vedaranyam (Thirumaraikadu) town falls under Panchayat. Muslims and other religion people live in the nearby villages like Kodiyakkarai, Puspavanam, Kariyapattinam, Thathakudi, Saravakattalai, Thenambulam, Naluvathapathi, Akkaraikadu, Thalantheruvasal, Orniyampulam, Kuravapulam, Thirupoondi, and Karuppubulam. Around these places Thopputhurai has 95% of Muslims. Here Muslims, Hindus and other religious people live together and this place can be sited as an example of unity among people of different community. Thopputhurai is a village near seashore. The name gives that, this place has lot of plantation and harbour. From this village a salt lake mixes with the after running a distance of 4 k.m.

Kodiyakkarai

Kodiyakkarai is 14 kms. from Thopputhurai. This place is noted for the birds sanctuary. Its nearby place is Muthuppettai with its backwater which attracts tourists.

Vedaranyam (Thirumaraikkadu)

Vedaranyam lies at a distance of 3 Kms from Thopputhurai. Vedaranyeswarar temple here is worth mentioning. It is one of the 'Saptha Vidanga Thalams'. This place was the centre stage of Salt Sathyagraha during freedom struggle.

Nagore

Nagore is at a distance of 50 kms. north of Nagappattinam. Irrespective of caste, creed and religion people offer their worship at this Shrine. Kandhuri festival during October and November is very popular.

Velanganni

Velanganni is situated on the coastal line of Bay of Bengal at a distanceof 36 Kms North of Thopputhurai. Sacred Arokkiya Madha Church here is a holy place for the Christians. People of all religions offer their worship at this Church. The festival during August and September is very famous.

Tranquebar—(Tharangambadi)

It is 78kms north of Nagapattnam on the east coastal line of Bay of Bengal. Danish Architexture is the attractions of Tranguebar.
