THANK YOU.

Auckland Cycle Touring Association

The Auckland Cycle Touring Association offers easy paced, non-competitive rides. We have frequent coffee stops. (It was once suggested that the initials of the Club stood for "Auckland Coffee and Tea Association".    However, "Away Cycling - To Adventure"  is equally fitting.) There are frequent social events (pot luck dinners, Christmas dinners, fun rides) and we send out a regular rides programme and newsletter. The Annual Subscription is $20.00 per household.

The main ride of the week is run on Sundays.   These vary from 50km to around 100km and will generally keep you entertained up to about 4:30pm.  On Saturdays we have a coffee ride of about 40km and try to be finished about 12:30pm.   Details are on the Rides Page.  And, for those who can get out mid-week, there is a Wednesday ride starting in Kumeu each week.   This will usually be 35km to 55km.  Riders decide the destination on the day.

There is also the occasional long weekend away which could see us in places such as Matamata, Whangarei or Otorohanga.

Come and join us. We will look forward to riding with you.

How it all began.

AUCKLAND STAR Advert - 23 FEBRUARY 1949

MEETINGS

AUCKLAND DISTRICT CYCLE TOURING ASSN

With the object of discussing and forming an Auckland Cycle Touring Association, a general meeting is to be held at the Physical Welfare Rooms, Fifth Floor, Houghton House, 47 St Paul's St, City, on Thursday, 24th, at 7.30 pm. All persons interested in the formation of this association are invited to attend. - J P Brien, Convener. Phone48-468.

The meeting was duly held and The Auckland Cycle Touring Association was formed on 24 February, 1949.

The invitation to all persons interested in cycling continues to this day and the Club still caters for cyclists interested in riding in the company of others. Currently the Club has a membership of around 100. At one stage the youngest member, who rode a tandem with her parents, was 8 while the oldest was 84. Every one is catered for.
