Original documentation to the Federal Government included the following details

Aims

• The development of a community based family therapy centre, providing professional counselling services and facilities that strengthen and support parents and families (the key nurture unit of the community) and enhance the building of the community into a socially functional and responsible entity.
  
  

• Develop and respond to the needs of the community of Ashmont by providing education programs that will help the community create their own solutions through encouraging prevention, early intervention and capacity building, in a way that is consistent with more supportive family structures
  
  

•  To respond to the increasing need for family support in relation to domestic violence and breakdown in the family unit.

 How

• Working in partnership with government based bodies, private organisations and the community itself.
  
  

• To seek interest from government based bodies, and private organisations that already offer family resources, to use the new Community Resource centre at Ashmont. (These organizations include Mission Aust. (Gambling and Budgeting Counselling), Police Liaison Officers, Probation Parole, ACE Tenancy Support group, School Counsellors, Relationships Aust., Wagga Wagga Family Support, & Greater Murray Health Services/ Community Health.)
  
  

•  To minimise the isolation and marginalisation of the community of Ashmont by providing greater accessibility to support agencies and programs. 
  
  

•  To seek funding for a Social Welfare worker (category 2), to be located at Ashmont Community Resources centre as a Liaison Officer for community members and coordinator for the participating family support organisations. (possibly also a part-time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer)
  
  

  •  Provide resources that deal with community difficulties.

  • To provide a safe and friendly environment in which the community can seek assistance and support.

  •  To encourage self-help and enable the community to become more effective in meeting their own needs
    
    

•  Research appropriate family support strategies by offering a pilot project for other Government Housing Estate areas for national development across the field
  
  

• Provide four counselling rooms and conference area with associated support services. The organisations will overlap in the use of rooms throughout the week
  
  

• To explore ways to compliment services offered with spiritual programs like grief and loss seminars, “healing the family tree”, networking/ family support programs etc.
  
  

• To further the vision …"to set people free”

This centre was opened by Kay Hull and Bishop Godfrey Fryar on Tuesday 5th February 2002.
