Culture : Teotihuacan
Lifespan : 500 BC - 700 AD

The first major urban area in the Western Hemisphere, this "City Of The Gods" is truly awesome in size. A climb and the view from the top of The Pyramid of the Sun is a thrilling experience. This is where the cult of the famous god Quetzalcoatl began. As the legend goes, he allowed himself to be tested by bravely casting himself into a fire. He survived it, but was transformed into The Plumed Serpent – all flashing feathers and iridescent colors. Other magnificent structures at the site include the Pyramid of the Moon, the Avenue of the Dead, the Palace of Quetzal-Butterfly and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl.
