The sections of a good project plan

Here are the sections that any good project plan should contain:

Section Description
Overview Summary of the key elements of the project, including its objectives and how to reach them.
Objectives and key requirements Clear description of the aims of the project explaining what it requires to achieve a good return on its investment, and the corresponding list of key requirements.
Approach Description of how the project will be tackled, including the steps to take and the standards to be met.
Major deliverables and key steps Summary descriptions of the deliverables and project delivery schedule.
Scope Clear description of the limits imposed on the project, defining the key elements that are inside and the ones that are outside those limits.
Resource requirements Summary of resources required to complete the project, broken down by type.
Organization, roles and responsabilities List of the main roles to be filled, extent of their responsibilities and how human resources will be exploited.
Internal and external constraints List of the main constraints of the project.   Some are under our control while others involve third parties.
Assumptions List of assumptions used in developing the plan.
Implementation strategy Description of how the deliverables will be implemented.
Timetable Overview, in the shape of a diagram, of the major project phases, of the activities, of the tasks and of the resources allocated to those tasks.
Risks and issues Initial record of the main risks and issues of the project, together with procedures for managing those riks and issues.
Quality assurance and control strategy Description of the processes that will be used to ensure that project deliverables meet the objectives.
Configuration of deliverables Procedures that will be used to manage different versions of the deliverables.
