Teachers and Students Welcome Technique, Teaching Strategies, Choreography July 12, 2009; 9am - 6pm The Red School Mall Dance Studio; 1275 Wabash Ave, Springfield Cost: $50/person Call 217-381-3822 to Register Join us for a fun, fast-paced intensive workshop in Irish Dance. We will cover the skills used with the Novice Irish Dance Student, and learn choreography and tips to enhance their technique. You will walk away from this class with new choreography! Sharon will teach at least TWO steps in each of the Reel, Slip Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe. Both the Treble Jig and Hornpipe will be at traditional speeds, and we will also study how to introduce complex upper level rhythms into this speed. Teachers of all levels welcome. Student participants must be either at the Novice level already or about to move up. Hard shoe experience is expected. About Sharon Stidham, MIDT Sharon's experience in Irish Dance began in 1969, when she began her study of Irish Dance with the the now legendary Joan McNiff Cass (TCRG/ADCRG). Sharon quickly moved on to study further with her brother, the late, great, Cyril McNiff (TCRG/ADCRG), one of the founding members of the Irish Dance Teachers Association of North America (IDTANA). With the McNiff school, and with her sisters, Sharon performed at venues as small as the annual dinner dances hosted by local associations, to venues as grand as the Garden State Arts Center and Carnegie Hall. As an individual competitor, Sharon won numerous local, regional and national awards, and qualified regularly for the Worlds competition, then held annually in Ireland. She has since been actively involved with several Irish Dance organizations, and in 2009, was part of the team that created the NAIDF (the North American Irish Dance Federation), a new, strictly open platform group focused on the love and perpetuation of Irish Dance.
