If you are on this page it means that you are just waiting to be truly there on the web. Yes, every netizen has a dream of owning his or her own personal page on the web somewhere. Today I shall help you to realize your dream. So lets start...

Firstly , before learning how to design a web page you must have some web space. There are many sites offering free web hosting. You can select from any one of them. A few of them are listed below:

1	Geocities	Quite a popular one, it is associated with Yahoo! If you have a Yahoo! mail account you will be automatically provided your own web space. Very easy to use and quite easy to manage.
2	Tripod	Another very popular free web hosting service. Now for Indian users there is also TripodAsia.
3	Xoom �	This is another site, mostly used by hardcore web builders who have enormous data to upload. Considered by most web builders as the best server to upload files of various types which can be�offered for download.
4	50Megs	This was the site on which I hosted my first page. But it is having troubles lately. I wasnt even able to sign in. It offers you a whooping 50 Megabytes (50MB) of storage space.

�Once you sign up or if you already have 50% of your work is already done!! Now you can start building your site.

Something about the Internet that you Should know:

The Internet as we know it is called the World Wide Web or WWW or w3.There are other parts to the Internet too like FTP (File transfer Protocol), Gopher etc. The WWW uses the HTTP protocol. It stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. It is a way of presenting information in which text, sounds, images, and actions are linked together in a way that allows you to jump around between them in whatever order you choose. The language used to create such hypertext documents is called HTML or Hyper text Markup Language. So you cant be getting anywhere if you don't know HTML.

Your First Page:

OK. Now that you have realised the importance of HTML lets make your first HTML document or in other words your FIRST PAGE!!

Copy this onto Notepad ( Click here to open Notepad - This link will work only if you have Notepad on YOUR computer. Or click the start button and then the find and search your computer for Notepad. It is usually located in the C:\Windows directory)

Now comes the tricky part and also the most important one. In the notepad click on file and then save. Then give the file a name say "mypage" and then give it an extension ".html". So it should look like "mypage.html" . Then click save. Now the file mypage.html is saved as a HTML document. Go to the folder where you saved it and open the file by double clicking it. The saved file will have the icon of Internet Explorer, so dont get confused!

If you have done everything right, you should be able to see this. If you cant, then retrace your steps. You might have made a minor error somewhere.

Now that you have made your first you must be pretty excited. Yup, so was I!! I cant tell you more here due to constraints of time and space. But there are thousands of tutorials available out there to help you and by going through them, you can master HTML in a jiffy. Below are some of the best:
