Baby Steps

The first step toward Aaron's professional career began when he was too young to go to school. He auditioned for a modeling job in a TV commercial. Jane describes this period in her fascinating book Aaron Carter:The Little Prince of Pop [Amazon.com]-- She was terrified that the scruffy Aaron, who had a knack for collecting bumps and bruises during his beloved roughhousing, would not get the part. The other child actors who showed up were so perfectly groomed. Guess what? Aaron stole the casting agents' hearts by being himself-just a regular boy.

Aaron was excited to get the part in the Tv commercial. All he had to dowas pretend to fish off a dock with an old man playing his grandfather. That came second nature to Aaron, who had grown up around the water in Tampa, FL.

Tampa was the second place the Carter brood had lived, after New York State. The family moved there and Jane and Bob worked at a retirement home called the Garden Villa. It was hard work, but it afforded thema a relaxed atmosphere and a good gorgeous backdrop(FL isn't called the Sunshine State for nothin!) against which to raise their children.

Outdorrsy Aaron was busy demonstraiting he was just as good indoors, working in photography studios. But he longed for something more...something more liie what Nick was doing!
