My words...

When I was young, we worried that the world might end. Not in some vague way like global warming or the ice caps melting, I grew up during the Cold War. When I grew up, we worried that the bombs would fall, the missiles fly and all humanity would just disappear in a nuclear fireball. I worried about this as did my parents when they were children. I now have a four year old son. He will never worry that the world will end. He will never worry when he goes to bed that he will not wake up in the morning. When words like "nuclear winter" and "fallout" are mentioned he will respond, "What's that?" He owes this to Ronald Reagan. I owe this to Ronald Reagan. We all owe this to Ronald Reagan.

For two generations, humanity and the world stood on the brink of destruction. Ronald Reagan though sheer force of personal will brought us back from the edge. He ended the cold war and destroyed world communism, and (as Margaret Thatcher observed) he did it without firing a shot. We owe him more then my words have the power to convey.
