Artist Bio/Statement
Art is one of the few things that makes life more interesting, beautiful, and above all, enjoyable. Design and illustration are my core focus at the present; however, I love the process of creation and the act of telling a story with my work.
The subjects that I choose range from subject to subject, dependent on the project. I like to tackle a subject such as cultural variations, and applying culture to a painting or drawing so that I learn from others around the world and broaden who I am individually and as a designer-illustrator. Another subject that I am keen to tackle with my work is to counter the status quo and the perceptions of art and education. My philosophy is that all people can create something beautiful, but few can give that beauty meaning.
The reason I work on these subjects is that they directly influenced me as a child. My family coming from so many different places played a large role in my personal development. To this day, I think of ancestry as a source of powerful influence and a driving factor in my personal and professional careers.
My process for illustration design is simple; I start with an idea, then, explore that idea through a series of sketches, then move on to the finished product. Some designs come easier than others, however, I do not like to give up an idea. The one thing that separates me from other designers, is my push for success in all things without giving up on principles, ethics and above all my passion. My passion is creating and educating others. What I see in my work is passion and joy, as well as inspiration, that keeps me going and keeps me creating new and exciting designed illustrations.
The people who inspire me are Howard Pyle, John Singer SSgt, N.C. Wyeth, Hayao Miyazaki, Osamu Tezuka, and much more. More than artists, my family has been the greatest source of inspiration and they are my greatest source of encouragement that I have. Everything that I created would have been possible if it were not for these inspirations. Anime and manga in addition to my instructors, teachers, and mentors, have also played a large role in inspiring me to achieve greater heights with my work, and think beyond the surface of each piece.
Art and Design is my life, I've taught art and design as well as other topics sense 2012 and before that I was freelance studio artist and graphic designer...
