TASK FOUR: THE WITCHES |
Part 1: What do the Witches look like? |
Oh, this is going to be really fun. This is where you and your group can really go nuts! The Witches can look like anything your imagination can come up with because Witches have the power to look any way they please. Let's look at some pictures to get some ideas: |
OK. Here we have a typical rendering of your average Witch. We have the cauldron, the black capes, the black pointy hats, green skin and big, warty noses. |
I just have one stipulation for your projects: Please don't go this route, OK? Why do I not want your witches to look like this? Because it's boring. |

Remember the Salem Witchcraft trials?? Sometimes Witches can look like your devout, church-going, next-door neighbor. |

Here are the Witches seducing Banquo. Notice how young they are? (Sorry about the picture; originally it was really small.) |

Notice that these Witches are three different ages?? |

Wow! These Witches are little kids!! |

How interesting! These witches are in white! (More about the importance of color in your next task!) |

I like these guys. They look like Gypsies! |

Notice how these witches are in modern party dresses? |

Part 2: Your Witches |
The Witches do not appear in every act of Macbeth. If your group picked Act 2 or Act 5, I will suggest that you include the witches in some imaginative way. For example, Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo do mention the witches or think about the witches. You could include a small "flashback" scene in your act. The point here is that even if the witches do not actually appear in your act, I want to see how you would represent them. |
So, what's the deal? Are your witches young, old, or both? How young? How old? What are they wearing? Do they enjoy what they do? Are they ugly or pretty? Go nuts, guys!! |
