Space Systems, Inc (SSI) is the conceptual R&D and space technology innovations division of AA Institute (AAI). It was established in August 2002 initially to design, develop and, where necessary, procure leading edge technologies in support of AAIs un-piloted, initially micro scale aerospace launch initiative - dubbed the Rocketry & Aerospace program.

The Divisions core technology innovations remit has since been extended to support a much wider and more demanding environment of advanced space science research activities currently planned by the AA Institute. Cheap Access to Space Technology (CAST) is an AAI commissioned program which is designed to explore the low cost availability and easy access to every day technology hardware for enhancement and use in a variety of space science applications.

Specific details relating to actual SSI projects will not be published in the public domain for proprietary reasons, but summary releases communicating hi-tech developments to the international web community are planned for publication on this site. Below are just some of the exciting applications areas which Space Systems, Inc. will address as part of its highly innovative future development program:-
  • Autonomous vehicle robotics for remote exploration (Exploration of Moon or Mars)
  • Robotic outpost development & operating (simulating the Moon or Mars colonisation environment ahead of a future manned base)
  • 3-axis/4-thruster gyro-stabilised, gimballed payload lander (controlled Lunar descent)
  • Remote sensing & telemetry systems (Earth-based applications and also spacecraft sub-systems)
  • A range of "sensor" technology devices (for Earth and space-based applications)
  • Rocket cam (Real time telemetry downlink during launch of AAI vehicles & aerial reconnaisance)
  • Aerial launch platforms (low-cost launch from balloons to orbit!?)
  • Aerover technology (atmospheric flight sim for Venus or Titan probes?)
All technology research and development initiatives completed by AA-Space Systems, Inc. will be fully commissioned and solely funded by the AA Institute.

By virtue of this all proprietary developments, capabilities and other benefits that accrue from SSIs R&D efforts shall be for the sole benefit of the AA Institute of Space Science & Technology.

As we have seen through history in both the US and Russia, many space science applications often have Earth-based side benefits (e.g. civilian GPS, robotics, etc) and SSI developments are expected to have many direct benefits for us all!
