6. Genesis of Guliński family

Łukasz (1), one of Mikołaj sons, born around 1470, inherited Wysoki in 1509. With wife Urszula Sienicka, he had tree sons: Stanisław (2), Piotr (2,3,4), and Jan (2,3,4,5). In 1523 Urszula widow after Łukasz, signed the agreement with her brother-in-law (6). Piotr and Jan in documents are called Kaszowskis (7). Łukasz' wealth was designated for Stanisław, Piotr, and Jan, and took place in 1523 in Lublin (8).

Stanisław, son of Mikołaj, born around 1510, the owner of Kaszów, Wola Kaszowska, and Gulin, is the progenitor of Guliński family. Jadwiga, (2,3,4,9,10,11) cousin of Stanisław, Jan and Piotr, and wife of Stanisław Dunin Wąsowicz, sold her part of Gulin and Kaszów to Stanisław, and Wysokie to brothers Jan, and Piotr Kaszowskis, contributing to separation of Gulinski and Kaszowski families. 27.XII.1586 in Cracow, Stanisław participated in the meeting of senators and knights of Cracow, Sandomierz, and Lublin provinces(12).

In 1546 Stanisław Guliński returned Grzmucin property owned as collateral (7) to Piotr Kochanowski, who was father of well-known writer Jan Kochanowski of Czarnolas. The sources present Piotr Kochanowski as loan middleman. Grzmucin property was owned by Dąbrowski family, who wanted to return money to Piotr, but he did not want to take the money, and return Grzmucin. The court verdict ordered Kochanowski to return the property, and take the money (13).

That time lending and borrowing was very typical transaction among the nobles. The land ownership was a critical asset for family, and clan welness. In the work about Jan Kochanowski, Maria Gorbaczowa present tendentious opinion, describing Jan as peaceable, and helpful neighbor, due to his lending/borrowing activities.

Piotr and Jan Kaszowski moved to Wysokie. Both, with co-claner, Stanisław Pszonka created so called Babin Republic. Piotr, a Lublin Province Judge, founded Calvinist church in Wysokie.

According to Księgi dochodów biskupstwa krakowskiego, in 1569 Kaszowska Wola property was divided into four parts. Two, of 6,5 łan (14) belonged to Stanisław, and other two parts, each of 1/2 łan belonged to Stanisław Wąsowicz, and Andrzej Kroczewski (15,16).

Stanisław Guliński had five sons: Paweł, Stanisław, Jan, Kasper, and Hieronim (2). In 1585 they had a court case with Suski (17), and in 1592 with cardinal Radziwiłł (17A). There is no other information about Paweł and Hieronim. Instead, Jan Guliński, with his wife Małgorza Blizińska, a daughter of Marek from Odrowążówna in 1593 received a position of Stryj city administrator (2,18,19). Kasper moved to city of Lvov, and originated Guliński branch of Bończa clan. Stanisław, born around 1560, which in 1616 hold position of Przemysl city master of the hunt, married Anna Czuryło, daughter of Marcin and Anna Jazłowiecka, a daughter of Podole voivode. Probably their son was Marcin (7,24), who in 1607 married Anna (20). In 1624 r. Stanisław' second wife was Janowa Odrzywolska (2).

Wawrzyniec, had a son Maurycy born around 1580, an owner of Ostrowie property. Maurycy married Barbara Zofia (7), with whom he had sons: Jan, who was killed during the wars with Sweden 1655-1656, Piotr, and Mikołaj. The daughter Barbara married Sieklucki (21). Probably Jan, son of Marcin was a teacher in Academic High school in Gdańsk, the one who signed himself as Jan of Gulin.

Interesting transaction was in 1595 selling of Gulin, and Wola Gulińska properties by Maurycy to Barbara, his mother (22). It is unknown, why Maurycy omitted the rule, and didn't distribute these properties to his children. Possibly, Maurycy renounced sons right of inheritance due to their religion change to Kalvinism.

Mikołaj Guliński, born before 1619, son of Maurycy, in 1620 married Zofia Suchorzewska (7). The same year was mentioned as owner of Cisie and Dobra Wola (23), located near Czersk. Jan, in 1631 represented his children, as natural heirs after Zofia, a daughter of his brother during transactions with Podlodowskis and Kochanowskis. (24) In 1624 Mikołaj bought part of Wielgolas property, and in 1631 moved to Cisie and Dobra Wola. In 1633 Mikołaj sold Cisie to Wybranowski (10,25,26).

Podlodowski family of Janina clan was well known for its contributions, but also for rowdiness, and love to sue. According to Słownik Geograficzny Królestwa Polskiego, in XVI c. Podlodowski family appropriated garden of Radom city administrator, tree villages in Radom vincinity, and three kings villages (26a).

A couple of Mikołaj and Zofia Gulińskis in 1637 received from King Władysław IV Wola Niemcowa (Dobroszowa) property, located in Podole-Kamieniec county (27). Their son was Jan (28).

The genealogical tree of Guliński family of Radom branch is presented here.

In the first half of XVII century the ownership of Gulin and Wola Gulińska properties is unknown. There is no record about these properties for next one hundred years. In 1738 Brzezińskis owned Gulin. New owners for refusing to pay tithes, at the order of Jan Lipski, bishop of Cracow were three times excommunicated. The celebration of excommunication took place with ringing the church bells, and throwing the candle from the pulpit of Radom's st. Wacław church (29).

The genesis of Guliński last name is shown here.
